Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>epox (more info?)

Hey guys I wanted to o/c my Barton 2500+ a bit higher but my 8k5a2+ was
limited to 12.5x multiplier.

I followed the steps on this site:
http://www.ocinside.de/go_e.html?/html/workshop/socketa/xp_painting.html
and my CPU is currently running at 13.5x166 Smile

I used an old floppy ribbon cable, took one of the small wires, stripped the
insulation, untwisted the wire within and used the individual strands bent
in a horseshoe shape to jumper between pin holes.

Worked like a charm for me.

You realize, that that's close to, if not faster than a 3200+. Not bad for
air cooling.

How did you keep the horseshoe mini-wires from touching anything else but
the holes? Don't they want to fall over, not to mention geting squished by
the HSF? That would be an interesting photo.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Yep clock speed I'm there but short a few mhz on the fsb.

The first picture shows which holes I had to jump with the wires to get a
13.5x multiplier and the second picture show how I stuck the wire into the
socket... the wire is only one strand and the CPU keeps the wire tight in
the socket.

Great stuff.

I have an exactly similar set-up, but nothing I do gets me over 2G,
wonderful things these Bartons, and who knew how robust the 8K5A2 was going
to be? It's getting old, been on fire twice, and has lost the auxiliary USB
headers, but this mothership cruises faster and faster.

Submit this task to hardocp, they might post it. It's a zero-cost helluva
OC.

I don't think hardocp would be interested... been around the net for a
little while...

I did some tweaking and now have my 2500+ @ 2305MHz!

Who needs an nf2 mobo. Wink
