Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>epox (more info?)

Hi,

Has anybody here tried a 166 FSB CPU on the 8KHA+?

The german Epox website has the 2800+ at 166 (333) FSB listed as the
maximum for that mobo.
But the dutch site has an older list stating 1600+ is the maximum.

I contacted the dutch Epox support which responded remarkably fast
(within 2 hours), but they didn't know why the german site had a
higher cpu listed. They thought that maybe the german site had done
some more tests that they didn't yet know about.

I tried contacting the german site, but they forwarded my question
again to the dutch support, who again responded quickly, but still
didn't know why the two websites gives different info.

166FSB processors weren't available when this mobo was developed, but
in the bios you can set the fsb from 100 to 200. So I guess it might
be technically possible that it works just fine. But maybe not
officially supported.

I hope somebody has more info on this.

Marc

My info is that this mobo supports only upto 133 FSB cpus so 2600+
is the lastl. Better forget it Smile<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I was running the mobo at 167MHz FSB for over 5 months overclockin a 1700+
Tbred B at 12.5x167 2083MHz.I have bought now a 8RGA+ since i wanted to go
higher than 167MHz FSB and on the 8KHA+ you are running an 41.6MHz PCI at
167MHz FSB.Lower in BIOS to UDMA66 and set PCI Latency to 64 in and you
should not have any problems.(=harddrive corruption due to high PCI bus)

166FSB may work OK but the AGP & PCI buses will be overclocked as the 8KHA+
has no 1/5 divider.

Different revisions of the 8kha+ support different cpu's. rev.2.0 is the latest
and supports 2800+(133FSB).Not many of those were released. So 2600+ is probably
it.
Mine won't get past 158. I think it's either the IDE(PCI bus) or the hard drive
that's screwing it up.
