I've always gone Intel, so I can't comment on the CPU/mobo choice. However,
I would consider using a 36 or 74gb WD Raptor SATA drive for C:, then buy an
inexpensive second drive for D: if you need more space. These are fast
drives and would make a difference in your system's performance, although
they may put you over your budget. The 36gb costs about US$110 and the 74gb
$175 here in the States.
One GB of RAM may be overkill and you may be able to make do with 512mb
unless you'll be doing photo or video work.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
