I need a new display and needs to be a CRT, not LCD.

I've been looking at:

Sony GDM-C520K Artisan 22"
and
Nec FP2141SB 22"

Both come highly recommended and have received good reviews
from Cadalyst and other magazines.

Does anybody know any important things about either
monitor that I should be aware of?

Quality issues, support problems, anything?

You have any idea how much that Artisan costs? It comes with a shroud and
professional color calibration tools and costs over $1600. I'd go with the
NEC for cost alone (unless you opt to get the color calibration set similar
to the Sony).<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Monitor reviews

I use to work at a computer retail store in the late 90s.
I liked NECs over Sonys.
Currently I've got a Hitachi CM810 21", works great, so I could say go
Hitachi.
I believe Cornerstone sells the same monitors as Hitachi, under the
Cornerstone name.

What are you going to do with it? The Sony will be nicer for images,
as it's an AG monitor.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Yeah, I forget that NEC and Mitsu merged their display operations.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Of course I have.

I'm intimately aware of the specs and have read all reviews
available on web and paper that I have been able to find.

I'll be using it for image correction (critical task) and also
office applications and gaming.

The shadow detail performance of the Artisan is especially
tempting, even with the high price premium. Shroud and basic
calibration (it's not a full/accurate photospectrometer) is
a plus in my book as well. Saves the hassle of getting them
separately. Also, the quick calibration feature of Artisan
is supposed to work pretty well (one has to re-calibrate the
display periodically and the quick calibration helps in this
after the initial full calibration has been performed properly).

I'm just somewhat weary of the fact that the F520 ang G520 series
have had so many quality issues and the longevity of those displays
hasn't been perhaps what I would expect from a top of the line CRT.

That's why I'm soliciting for user input / experiences.

I don't think that's an issue any more. When the F500 series was new,
there were issues. I had an F500 go bad on me, after 4 years, and
I've seen other complaints as well. However, I don't recall any
complaints about the newer 520's - it's likely they worked the bugs
out. I'm running a refurbished F500R now, and it's outstanding.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I'm using an NEC-Mitsubishi FE2111SB-BK right now. I had gotten the 19"
Diamond Pro 930SB but after about 6 months no problems it started having
power save problems. Went thru 3 replacements before NEC decided to send me
this nice 22" baby. It's no DP2070SB but it has the same Diamondtron M2
tube.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

i do have a diamond Pro 2070 SB and recently i have been having
powersave issues. The screen blanks out and i have not found a way to
bring it back. Is this the same issue you were seeing?

Is there a workaround? or should i contact Mitsubishi for a new
monitor as well?

thanks
