Hi all,
i have this tiger mp S2460 board running 2xMp1900 Cpu's with approved
genuine AMD fans, and heatsink paste, crucial 512 ddr 2100, crucial radeon
7500 64mb AGP, and an 80gig HDD running on primary IDE, and I'm having a
problem with it.
here we go:
It started as a full build with 3 cd rom (various) and 1 hdd, all running
off the Prim and Sec IDE channels, one FDD, The above graphics card, and
memory, one usb card, one SB live sound card, one ethernet card NIC, PSU is
Amtec recommended one from tyan, Whacked it in, push the button and hey
presto, all booted up, setup OS XP pro, and then crashed after f8, user
licence. started again, crashed after networking setup, then 3rd time all
fine.
bought an exhaust, whacked it in, improved air flo in, started up, all going
well.
Here then starts my fault: If the system restarts, or hibernates, or goes in
standby it will not wake up, or reset, or turn off, or turn on. I have to
unplug it, ten minutes later in goes the plug and were off, untill i start
to use a bit of CPU power, task manager says I use 50-75% of both CPU's to
run the application, and the tyan system monitor reports my cpu temps are
CPU0 61 and CPU1 is 66, then it self restarts, it doesnt hold or pause, it
turns off then tries to turn on again, but does not get past the short beep
at end of bios (when its searching for OS).
Also, I decided to try for a bare bones, nothing but CPU's, Vid, Mem, HDD, I
ask the 2460 to restart and it will until it gets past Post, one short beep,
and it sits there waiting for OS to kick in.
This happens all the time, if I reset, turn off, standby or it does it
itself (as above),
The only way I can it past post is to unplug for 10 mins, and its fine.

Have I got a heating problem?
All conponments have been checked out to be fine. And one other thing Bios
version 1.03 is on it, This is the second board, the other had 1.05 and had
the same fault. Different PSU's, Different Vid, different mem, nothing makes
it better. Even if the MB is out of the case flat on the table runnng
barebones it still has the same effects when restarted or shut down.

Done my head in this one has,
Any help would be well appreciated, or tips if any other details are needed
please mail me pswri.DeleteThis@hotmail.com or havefun.pwright.DeleteThis@virgin.net

many thanks

Pete

sounds like the signature of a heating problem -
1.try moving memory to slot2 or 3.
2. jumper-disable everything intergrated - video/lan, etc.
3. and this is my guess - downclock your FSB to 200 and try again.
4.check your chipset for heating. Next time it reboots or such - feel it
with your finger, keep yer finger there until it feels like youre getting
all the heat it can give a little then put your finger on your lips. if this
makes you go "fucking ouch!" then thats way too hot.
5.if u havent already (probably have) only use intergrated video (i cant
remember if your board has it). do this of course before suggestion 2 Wink
6. by the way - your temperature is WAY too high for what youre doing. Leave
your case open and, if able, put a room fan on the entire bastard. See what
happens. I dont know why youre seeing Cpu0&1 at 60c+ - this could explain
the instant powerdowns - your board is equiped with cputemp shutdown. If it
reaches unsafe levels, it'll auto-shutdown. Thats whats happening there.

Anyway, just a few things you could ry. Let us know what happens.
