If those numbers are correct you have a Barton 2600 and the 0349 means your
multiplier is locked so raising the FSB is your only way to overclock. Start
with at stock FSB (166MHz) and raise it a few MHz at a time keeping your
memory speed in sync (the same). You have a KT400 chipset so the AGP and PCI
Buses will probably limit you to FSB 170-180. Your memory should be fine at
these settings. You can download Prime95 and Memtest86+ to test your systems
stability.

Also a newbie at overclocking but have managed to get 2600XP
(Thoroughbred/333Mhz) (on an Abit KV7) to run stable at a reported 2231Mhz
(11 x 200 FSB, Vcore 1.75 volt,DDR 2.65volt, CPU Temp 50C) 1Gb PC2700 RAM
(also at 200Mhz) with basic cooling. This appears to be the max for my
current setup anything over this is either a BSOD or no POST.

If yours is a 2600XP/333 you could experiment with leaving the FSB at 166
and increasing the multiplier and core voltage

x13 (2166Mhz=2700XP), Vcore 1.75 volts system is stable.

x13.5 (2250Mhz=2800XP) Vcore 1.85 isn't as stable with the occasional BSOD.

Being a newbie my other concern with changing the multiplier is that the CPU
Temp is reporting some 10 - 15C degrees higher (60-65C - a bit too hot for
me).

You've got a KT400 chipset so 176 may be close to the limit of your board.
My KT400 Dragon Ultra maxed out at 174. If you want to get up to 200 and
over you'll need a nF2 based motherboard. Like I suggested download Prime95
and Memtest86+ (just Google and you'll find them) and test for stability. If
you go too high with the FSB you could damage your HD as your increased FSB
runs your PCI and AGP busses out of spec.

That's a week 49 cpu so the multiplier is locked (and it is a Barton, not a
T'bred)...your only option would be to increase the FSB but as a previous
poster said the KT400 chip-set will be a limitation in this respect. I have
a nforce 2 based Abit NF7-S and I'm running a similar cpu at 2593MHz
(225FSB) but I'm afraid with a KT400 board and DDR333 memory you have no
chance of getting this high.
