I have a 8KHA+ and 1700+ which suddenly started failing to boot, with
the 26h error on the mobo LED. This error indicates a overclock
error, according to the manual. It suggests you not overclock, reset
the CMOS, and/or Boot while holding down the 'insert' key.
I do not overclock this system, I did reset the CMOS, and have tried
many times to get past the 26h error by holding down the insert key.
This was a sudden failure of a working system, so I guessed maybe the
motherboard had gotten damaged during one of our many thuderstorms
this summer (grasping a straws here - maybe my power protection is
bad? I don't know what would cause this error). I see no bulging
capacitors or staining of the mobo.
Anyway, out of frustration and a need to feed my computer hardware
addiction, I bought a new 8RDA+ and Barton 2500+ (retail) from
newegg.com. I built the machine in the same case with same power
supply, and graphics card (GForce4 4200), initially leaving out the
network and sound cards. I get the same &$%# 26h error! It's been a
month now, and I've tried everything I know short of throwing out the
case and powersupply.
Anyone have any thoughts on the cause of this problem. The PS is an
Enermax EG365P-VE, relatively new (<1.5 years). It is rated at 350W,
I believe. At the time I bought it, it had several favorable reviews
at various hardware websites. Memory is 2100 DDR from Mushkin (could
stand to upgrade this, I know).
Thanks for any help you may have,

I think its maybe 2b and its a damaged gfx card test with another gfx card
and i think that you will see that both mobos are
working..........................

You beat me to it Nitza!
Joe the key to the second digit is whether it has the top horizontal
segment alight. If it is then it is a '6' and if not it is a 'b'. I'm
now sure
that several help requests in the group from other posters have written
'6' when it was a 'b'.
I'd suggest you try any other graphics card, PCI or AGP to get the system
started into DOS when you can see what the BIOS says about the voltages.

Wow - you're good. Thank you!
I tested both Epox boards with a GFX2-pro w/64 MB, a GFX2-pro w/32 MB
and a GFX4-4200 w/128MB - all three gave the same '26h' error - only
it was really '2bh'. Based on your post, I rummaged through the parts
box and found an old Matrox PCI card - it boots fine.
Thank you for the assist.
Now - next question - what's the deal with these cards and Epox Mobos?
They work in my ABIT KT7A (1200MHz) and ABIT KT7 (1300MHz Duron) just
fine. The KT7A is currently running the GFX2 Pro 64MB and the KT7 has
a GFX2 Pro 32 MB. Anyone know why the Epox mobo's don't like the
GeForce cards? Is this a known problem? Did I make a mistake going
with Epox?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: 26h error on boot of 8KHA+/8RDA+ |

No, you didn't. It's just that the real culprit is hiding from us. The
fundamental
difference twixt GF and Matrox is Amps and the socket. I think the the
next
step is to substitute the PSU. Enermax are good but NOT immune to giving
trouble occasionally.
It could be that the heavier current demand of the GF cards is showing up
the PSU. You now know that both m/boards are functional and capable
of starting up on the Matrox PCI gfx card, so the cheapest test to try is
'borrow' the PSU from the other system and see what happens.
As further encouragement, my 8RDA+ runs the GF4-Ti4200 64MB with
no problem from a 300Watt supply and achieves just short of 10k in
3dMark2001SE. (As yet untuned!)

Thats strange both motherboards have a broken AGP port really strange, try
what Graham suggested to see if it works, does the 4200 that you first tried
the mobos works in the KT7A? It may be the gfx card is dead and damaged also
both agp slots.................

Thanks Graham and Nitza,
I got a Radeon9000 AGP from a friend - works good (slow) with both
epox boards.
The GF4-4200 now fails in the KT7A! Remember I put a Matrox PCI card
in the 8RDA+ system, and I then moved the 4200 to the KT7A. All this
was running great (though with crappy graphics from the Matrox card).
Per Graham's suggestion, I moved the PS from the KT7A system to the
8RDA+ along with the 4200. This configuration would still not boot -
2bh error. When I put that PS back in the box with the KT7A, the 4200
no longer worked (long, 2 short beep code)! I put the GF2Pro 64MB on
that system - works fine. I'm getting gun-shy, or I'd try the GF2Pro
with the 8RDA+.
Does the fact that the Radeon works and the 4200 doesn't indicate a PS
problem or a fried GF4-4200? The GF4 is pulling more power that the
Radeon, I'm guessing. Maybe I've got a really crappy Enermax PS? The
GF4-4200 was running fine in the KT7A until I switched it and the PS
over to the 8RDA+ today. It was also running fine in the 8KHA+ until
recently.
This is really frustrating. I've used epox mobos since the K6-2s and
-IIIs, and I've never had this kind of problem before. Somedays the
call of the Dark Side is loud - "Buy the $699 Dell system, Dude".
Thanks for your patience and your help.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: 26h error on boot of 8KHA+/8RDA+ |

Its really strange problem but i guess the 4200 has a problem sometimes
works sometimes it doesnt if you can RMA it....

Just as the respected Enermax sometimes give trouble, my earlier
GF2-MX400 decided to enter 'vertical nipple mode' (go tits up!) some
while ago and it upset a load of settings in the BIOS as it died in my
8KHA+. So I replaced it with an old PCI TNT2 while I got the parts
and pennies together for the 8RDA+ and the Barton 2500+ with the
GF4 Ti4200 currently in use.
Are you very sure that the latch is clicking home on the ATX 20-way
power plug onto the m/board? If so, then it looks like the GF4-4200
has finally died after giving variable but only semi-cohesive evidence
of its 'goodness'.
Don't ya just lurv computers?
