I have a A7V8X-X board with a old 1.4 Athlon in it. I just got a 2800XP
2.08GHz/333fsb. I dropped the new cpu in and started the computer up. It
ran the POST and went into setup but then gave me this message when I
adjusted the cpu speed from 1667 MHz to 2083MHz---

Caution: According to CPU external frequency setting, system memory can
only operate at frequency higher than or equal to 333 MHz ,please make sure
the DRAM maximum frequency is not less than 333 MHz.

I have two sticks of 256MB which I'm pretty sure are 2100 (which is
266?). So do I need to buy a stick of 2700 (which is 333?)? Sorry if this
is pretty basic stuff but while I know a little about computers I am
definitely am still pretty much a newb about most of this stuff.

PC2100 == 2.1GB/sec == DDR*266*.

DDR333 (PC-2700, 2.7GB/sec) is the minimum RAM speed for a Barton core to
run at peak stock speeds. For most Athlon platforms, you lose speed if the
CPU's FSB and RAM clocks aren't in synch.

There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.

Thanks, that'll give me an excuse to buy a stick of 512 ram and free
up another slot for down the road.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
