Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>epox (more info?)

Hiya,

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I decided to try a 4pca3+ to see if it
would perform/overclock any better than my 4pda2+.

Well I had it in my system for all of one afternoon. It did not perform any
better at default settings (according to Sandra) than my 4pda2+ and did not
overclock any better either (may actually have been slightly worse in this
regard).

Two quirks: The cpu temperature, as reported in the 'health' section of the
bios ran consistently 12 degrees celsius higher than it did in the 4pda2+,
averaging 50, which is rather high I think for default voltage. The other
quirk is that it seemed to undervolt the cpu by at least .5 volts. I also
noted vcore voltage swings of as much as .75 volts.

These two issues, along with a board layout which is not nearly as good as
the 4pda2+ (check out the position of the floppy connector on the 4pca3+)
has made me decide to keep the 4pda2+ and return the 4pca3+.

Note that my sample of the 4pca3+ may have been somewhat dodgy. If you have
a desire for RAID 5, which the highpoint 374 controller can do, then the
4pca3+ is certainly the way to go.
