I know that I want a 6600GT based video card. But there are so many card
manufacturers out these nowdays that I do not know which one to choose. I
have been using Leadtek for the last three years (GF4 Ti 4200) and am
considering staying with them purely due to familiarity with their products.
But if I were to change, who would I consider and why?
Thanks in advance to all who respond.

Depends on if you think a lifetime warranty will be useful, ie do you
tend to upgrade graphics card every 18 months to 2 years....
If not then something like the Galaxy could be the answer. Runs as
default at 300MHz core and has DDR3 525MHz memory (1.05GHz). Nice copper
heatsink and a pretty quiet fan, also stays nice & cool and I've not had
any crashes from it yet in 2 months of playing NFSU2, Simpsons Hit & Run
& X2 The Threat. I tend to play games in 1280x1024 (or 1024x768 if
that's all the game allows). My rig is as follows:
Abit AN7 uGuru nForce2 motherboard
Athlon XP3200+ (2.2GHz) Barton (not overclocked)
1024MB (2 x 512MB) Matched Corsair XMS
Galaxy GeForce 6600GT 128MB
AG Neovo F419 TFT monitor.
I used to run an MSI GF4 Ti4400, the 6600GT is a massive step forward!
Neil.

I only intend to have the card for two years as then I will replace the
whole computer system - Mobo, CPU - all.
I'm glad to hear that the 6600GT is such a big improvement over the Ti4400
as I will see even better improvement over my Ti4200

I'm assuming that you're shopping for an AGP card PCI-E. (dont ask why,
just a guess i think)
I dont want to patronise you but after myself and a few others on this
forum buying 6600GT's that had the now infamous problems I wouldn't go
for a 6600GT, in fact i'd steer well clear. I've gone for a 6800
(vanilla) for a little bit more money.
Make sure you buy from a company that will let you return the item
easily if it is faulty.
Just a warning really (http://forums.nvidia.com - take a look at the
official nvidia forums to see the sheer amount of people having problems
with this card if you didnt know about the problems already)

That advice would be a little easier to follow if NVidia would release a
6800 class card that has a working video processor.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: What is the best 6600 GT card? |

Hasn't the problem been isolated to those with motherboards which use
SIS chipsets ?
People who have problems will always be more vocal than those who don't,
this can distort the picture somewhat.

The word on the street (and from NVidia) is that the 6800 series will never
be able to accelerate HD WMV while the 6600 cards along with the PCIe
version of the 6800 can/will.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: What is the best 6600 GT card? |

I've had my pair of 6600gt's from msi for a little bit now and i can say
that i didn't have one problem installing either of them. i'm running good
ram and good power supplies. one is using the via kt800 chipset and the
other is on an older sis chipset. i was given a word of advice from someone
that basically said, disable fastwrites, put agp aputure(<==SP) size to 256.
make sure you have a good powersupply +24amps to the 5v line and atleast
+20amps to the 12v line.
He then told me that if i am overclocking, to clock back to my normal
speeds. uninstall the first card, then go into safemode with drivercleaner
and remove any lingering driver files. then to powerdown, put the new card
in, make sure to connect the power to it, and install the drivers when
inside windows. then test your favorite games. if everything seems to be
working then you can start overclocking your cpu/ram again.

That was PNY's take on "lifetime warranty" not too long ago. Now, I think
they just have a standard 1 year warranty (3 years with product
registration).<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: What is the best 6600 GT card? |
