Anyone using the Gainward GeForce 7800 GS 512MB card with FS2004?

I just bought this card but am not getting as good a frame rates as hoped,
on the ground at a busy airport it can drop to 5fps! Is that acceptable or
are there setting somewhere I can tweak?

I am new to this so go easy on me Smile

Thanks for any advice

Graham

FS2004 is mainly CPU dependant not GPU dependant. Having said this though
there are still some tweaks that one can do to get better performance. Check
out the forums at www.avsim.com and www.flightsim.com these will definitely
get you going in the right direction.

I am getting 18-20 fps with a 6800GS and all graphic settings set to
maximum quality and density, and all high-quality options turned on.
The CPU is a 3.0 GHz Pentium P4.

Flight Simulator doesn't really put much of a load on high-end
graphics cards. Most of the load is on the CPU of the system.
Upgrading video cards improves things a little bit, but far less than
it does with many other video games that make heavy use of advanced
graphics cards.

Hi there

I am running a 3.0 GHz Pentium P4 but don't get frame rates like that. Have
you adjusted any settings from default? I did find a load of suggested
display settings on a forum but couldn't find where these were to change. I
looked in the nVidia control panel but couldn't see them?

Thanks

I turned on all the fancy video enhancements I could find in the
simulator (shadows, reflections, "ultra high" detail and quality,
etc.), mainly to see how slow the simulator would run. To my delight,
it still maintains 20 fps in virtually all situations. And this is at
1600x1200 pixels, 32-bit color.

I haven't changed much of anything in the nVidia settings. The card
idles at about 47° C, and gets up to about 56° C in Flight Simulator
(the shutdown temperature is 125° C).

Flight Simulator 2004 actually has faster frame rates than FS 2002, as
far as I can tell. FS 2002 would bog down with all the graphics eye
candy turned on; FS 2004 does not.

I have this card but not tried it on fs2004 yet. I think that motherboards
can be a part of the problem my Gigabyte m/board died recently & i replaced
it with another brand of the same spec but a different chipset. Now my
overall graphics has really took a dive, almost as if i have fitted a really
out of date card like a GF ti4800 etc.

Frame rate is hopeless & stutters like mad. I am now in the process of
getting the exact same board that died so i will be back to excellent
performance.

Reinstall Graphic drivers with newest version. In your desktop settings
leave them as default. If that doesnt help, reset your bios settings on your
mother board using the jumper or in the bios it self. If that doesnt help,
Look for a tweak guide for FS. Thats all i can think of so good luck.

I did get another gigabyte mainboard with the same chipset & it now works
just fine.
