The other day when I rebooted my computer it did not reboot, No fans no
lights or anything. I replaced the power supply and now the fans spin
but thats about it. At first I could not even get into the bios but
after I disconnected all my optical drives I was able to get into the
bios. Now I reinstalled my main hard drive and 1 cd rom on the main ide
channel{1} with the jumpers set correctly and they are seen in the bios
but they do not show up anywhere else so the computer will not boot from
the hard drive or with a bootable windows 2000pro installation cd. The
funny thing is when I attempt to put optical drives on ide 2 I can't
even get into the bios screen again,it stops right after the memory test
completes. Did I kill the onboard ide controller when my power supply
puked or could it be something else?
Thanks in advance. Phil

Something went bad..

I assume you unplugged the box ( thus killing the standby voltage) and
cleared the BIOS. If it is a rev1 board you have to remove the battery. In
the case of Rev2 you use the BIOS Clr jumper.

It the BIOS does not find the operating system, it tells you that fact.
Could be a bad board. I had one.

I figured it out, When I moved my computer upstairs I did not install
the surge protector for my phone line, Big mistake! Somehow I received a
voltage spike thru my phone line and it killed my power supply, modem
and screwed up both my hard drives. I lost the boot sector on my main
drive and had some problems with my bios. I booted to my other bios
after removing the battery and reinstalled Windows 2000 on a different
hard drive. I was able to recover most of the important stuff from my
main hard drive and only lost 2 files on my secondary hard drive. I was
lucky this time, I would really hate to kill this motherboard, I tried
to find another one to build a system with and they are nowhere to be found.
Thanks, Phil
