Does anyone here have the Chaintech 7VIF4?

I bought this motherboard because Chaintech says that it has 8x AGP support. The manual accompanying the motherboard says that the 7VIF3 supports up to 4x AGP, and the 7VIF4 supports up to 8x. I have the latter. However, my nVidia drivers are only reporting up to 4x support. And the AGP options in the BIOS only go up to 4x. I am currently using a PCI card from my old computer, but had purchased this board with the intention of upgrading to an 8x AGP card in the future. And now when I start to look into this, I find myself doubting that my board does support 8x despite what the manual and Chaintech's website says.

I dropped Chaintech and email, and got this reply:
Quote:
Dear Sir,

This board supports only up to 4x AGP.

What is up with that!? False advertising?! Blatant lies!?

Can anyone here tell me what is going on here? Is Chaintech known for false advertising? Or just really misleading mistakes?

This is the motherboard I have:

Notice that it says:
Quote:
Expansion Slots * One universal-AGP slot for both 4X/8X AGP

I am terribly confused and disappointed right now..

you should be good to go when your ready for the agpx8. i have a kt600 and have a radeon 7000 (2x/4x). it only shows 4x in the bios. i put a radeon 9250 (4x/8x) i now have the option for 8x showing in the bios. sisoft sandra shows 4x/8x support.

Thanks for the info, uddarts! Perhaps I will have to take a risk and purchase an 8x AGP card to test it out. I guess I will have to end up buying from a local retailer so I can return it if it goes wrong. (Actually should be getting a $25 BestBuy gift certificate soon for supporting a local school's charity fund raiser, so perhaps I'll use it towards that.. or a hard drive.. must evaluate my current needs)

On the box, my chipset is supposed to be the KM400 + VT8235. Though, I recall seeing something different when my computer does the POST. Can't remember what. Something similar though.

Hmm... this doesn't sound very encouraging now though:

Dear Sir,

As we have tested using this board, this board does not exceed 4x agp. A
misprint will be corrected soon on this.

So I'm not sure if I will want to buy an 8x AGP card just to see if it works or not. Is there anyone here with this same motherboard (Chaintech 7VIF4)?

I wish I knew someone who had a free 8x AGP card they would let me borrow..

I wish they would be more detailed in their emails. Did they just recently test the board for me? Did they discover this while testing the board in its initial marketing stages?

What a dampener.
