Just bought a 865PE Neo2-LS mainboard for my old PC a 1700mhz intel cpu.
After installing the mainboard and trying to start the PC, nothing happens.
I think my old cpu isn't compatible to the new mainboard.
Had if before on another pc. No picture, nothing.
Maybe my cpu don't fit this mainboard. Don't ask me witch one I got. How do
do check these things?
Put the old mainboard back and everything works, so the cpu and the other
stuff aint faulty.
Does this mainboard only take some cpu's? >> Stay informed about: MSI 865PE-Neo2-LS? |

Yes; Your 1700 is 400 FSB.. The MSI boards officially support only 533 and
800 FSB.. However, The MSI boards SHOULD support your 400 FSB as all the
other mainboard Co's boards seem to do.. ERR WAIT, We are talking about
shitty MSI, NO WONDER WHY!

The P-4 2.2 is as well 400 FSB.. Not to be rude to you, but please, for your
own sake, research this stuff fully before going out and potentionally
wasting your money.. The Asus p-875 boards WILL RUN YOUR 1.7 400 FSB and
P-4. 2.2..
The MSI BOARD will not run both your 1700 and a new p-4 2.2
My recommendation is, if at all possible, return your MSI board in exchange
for an Asus Board!!

as well any Asus P-865 board will run 400 fsb P-4 processors. The MSI 865'S
WILL NOT!! (OFFICIALLY, THIS MEANS NO BIOS SUPPORT FOR THE 400 FSB PROCESSOR
ALTHOUGH CERTAINLY THE CHIPSETS CAN RUN THEM.. PLEASE THANK MSI ONCE AGAIN
FOR SHITTY BIOS SUPPORT!!)

How much are you paying for
a 2.2 p4? You board supports
the 800 FSB and Fry's is selling
the 2.4 for about $210 or so. That
combo allow for hyperthreading.
I'm really happy with the video
rendering- about 1.25 times realtime.
Do you know the limitation of the
onboard audio? I read somewhere
that it won't play while recording
like pci cards.

Scott,
Do you think MSI bios is bad because
of inherent defects or the way they
are set up to not give full features?
Thanks
I liked your post that gave credit to the
guy who thought about the second power
connection.

"Scott,

Thanks,"
I think it is inherent defects, that MSI does not fully test their boards
and bios setups like Asus/Abit is industry wide recognized as doing. All
MB's have problems when first released to a certain degree.. The issue with
MSI is that their boards always seem to HAVE THE MOST ISSUES AND TAKE THE
LONGEST TO FIX!!
PLUSES FOR MSI; They offer nice features, a "cool" red colored board. Lots
of cool add-ons..
MINUSES..
"Rushed to market New Intel boards" not properly fully tested, 4 layer PCB,
Poor tech support (most mb co's have bad tech support, exception Gigabyte)..
MAT "SEMI-SCAMOLOGY" Poor utilization of the memory bus which results in
most of their boards lagging behind in memory benchmarks. Last but not
least, poor bios team.
Peace
