MSI Neo FISR2
P4 3.0 800fsb HT
1gb ram (hyperX 512mb sticks x 2)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Latest Catalyst drivers (3.6.xxxxx)
Latest Intel Chipset Drivers (5.00.10.12)
Latest MSI Bios (1.6)

AFter fresth install of XP Pro with SP1 and all patches..
I installed the Intel drivers
Then the RAdeon ones. and the radeon driver on reboot, check your system for
system compatability and set Fast Writes to yes and AGP to 8X (so far so
good)

On last reboot.. machine comes back and is MAJORLY unstable.. all sorts of
programs exit randomly..

So i rebuild once more today.. this time i installed the radeon drivers
BEFORE The Intel chipset ones and the agp is set to 4X and FW's ar turned
of...

I then isntall the Intel Chipset drivers and reboot.. ATI drivers sense this
and set AGP to 8X and FW's are still off.. system appears to be stable..
no drops or programs just disappearing off the screen..

anyone else with a simliar system and how are you faring?

thanks

Was that fast writes in CMOS, or in the card drivers (i.e. SmarGART)? I've,
for the first time since it surfaced a few years ago, been dealing with the
dreaded 'infinite loop' problem. Intel D865GBF board. P4 2.4C. Samsung
PC3200 x 2@256MB. And, a Powercolor 9700np. Doesn't seem to matter which
drivers I use. Right now, using the Omega 3.6's. Turned off PCI writes, in
SmartGART, last night. I'm really hoping that was the problem...

i did it in the drivers.. HAD the omega's and rebuilt with the catalyst
directly from ATI's site.. been no problem since..

if i installed the intel chipset drivers first.. THEN the video card
drivers it sensed the 'ability' to to AGP 8x and FW's but could not handle
it.. the smartgart was right on when i installed the drivers first.. then
the intel chipset drivers.. it sensed 4X AGP and FW off.. on install of
the intel drivers on reboot. it bumped it up to 8x agp and fw's were still
off.. not going to turn them back on.. strange strange stuff man...

IE would lock up and just close itself.. some video games would just hiccup
at the time they are supposed to chagne rez to being.. etc... even got to
times when on startup.. gui would come up for 20 seconds then reboot...
pissed me off majorly.. new mobo... new cpu... new video.. new ram.. new
problem!

Cool, thanks! I sure hope turning writes off, fixes my problem.
