412W at idle is even less desirable. It's like running a hot-plate for
cooking.

Looking at the test results and seeing as how they don't bother with
FSAA or High levels of Aniso in half the games tested makes you realize
how pointless SLI is!

The idle power draw could be improved upon with a simple driver update if
nVidia decides to do it. Should be a simple matter of shutting down two of
the cards if no monitors are attached to them.

Full-load power draw is crazy, though. Maybe they should start measuring it
in horsepower instead of watts...

System load, yes. It's still ridiculous though.

0.730 kilowatts = 0.9925226 metric horsepower.

Alas, "metric" in this context doesn't mean international standard. In the
electrical industry 1 horsepower equals exactly 746 watts, so 0.730
kilowatts = 0.9785523 horsepower.

However, all this is purely academic, since PSU efficiency changes depending
on input voltage. Take the test rig out of Anand's lab and into a typical
Japanese 100V outlet, and watch the power draw go up a bit. So really, just
call it a 1-horsepower rig. Smile
