I need to upgrade the bios - I saw the readme in the latest bios on epox
website - it seems easy - using a bootable floppy. Is there anything I need
to watch out for? I have a backup powersupply and the utility it comes
with makes a backup of the old one

I have upgraded Epox and other brands many times without a problem. Do not
try it if your system is flaky, only if it is running reliably. Do not
overclock. Reliable mains power is fundamental. Just follow the "how to" and
all should be well. I usually use the floppy method, but some new systems
have no floppy so you have to use the Windows method. Both have worked for
me.

There has been more than one person try to upgrade the bios and trash
his system.

It is actually quite common if you read these messages.

So the question becomes: Is there any real reason for you to do a
bios upgrade (and potentially destroy) your system?

Ok John thanks. I do not overclock and the system runs fine.

Of course you are correct - there is some risk and I am concerned about
"trashing my system". I am trying to resolve a flickering cursur issue
which happens when I install a firewire card. Others on the amd website
advise this is likely due to using the apci (or is it acpi) power setting
and can be eliminated by disabling that setting - but then shutdown issues
arise - which are eliminated by later bios. Have not done anything yet but
have emailed epox for further guidance. I might try the acpi thing first -
to see if it solves the issue. If not, then I do not need to deal with the
bios upgrade. Alternatively I can buy win xp which also solves the
problem
