Post subject: 8KNXP Sound and Vcore issues
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>gigabyte (more info?)

Hi all,

I'm having sound issues with my 8KNXP.
While listening to MP3 music for about an hour sound starts to pop, one
can't hear it at the begining, but after two hours it starts to be very
annoying... It's the same with WMP9 or Winamp. Checked out CPU and board T
it's ok. MP3 files are ok too.
Games like Freelancer or AoM run just fine for hours!
Does anyone have the same prob?

Also something looks weird: Sandra shows the CPU Vcore to be 1.560V (P4
2.6C) and Gigabyte's overclock utility says 1.590V or 1.60V! Is that normal
since the Vcore should be 1.525? I'm using Enermax 430W, was the same with
old Enermax 350W... BIOS Vcore settings are set to Default.

....
Weird science....
Thanks all for attention and help!

I have no sound problems at all with the onboard sound, and I also use
Winamp v3 for listening. Sandra 2003 Pro shows vcore to be 1.54v while MBM5
shows 1.52v ("Core 0"), and my PSU is an Antec Truepower 480w. All my vcore
settings are also set to their defaults. Have you checked your amplifier
and cables for the source of your noise? Try plugging in some headphones to
determine the source is the soundcard.

Oddly, my "Core 1" voltage is shown as 2.59v in MBM5. Shouldn't it be
closer to 2.5v?

Me and my friend had a similar issues with popping sound and also jerkiness
in games on the board. We finally tracked it down to happening whenever we
ran Sandrasoft max to check the board. Since removing the software the
problem has gone. ???

So it would freak the sound after running Sandra Max, even after exiting the
program?

Thanks to all and specially to The Marshal for his precious help.
Indeed the sound popping issue comes from the software Sandra. Zapped
it up!
I got another issue with that mobo: All of the Nero Tools made the
system to reboot while launching. Do you know something to avoid that?
Maybe another software conflit? I've seen so far that every software
trying to access to the hardware layer (bios) of this mobo causes a
problem somehow... Can't flash BIOS with Gigabyte's Windows utility
either.
The last weird thing that happened was when I tried the Intel® Chipset
Identification Utility and it just says "can't figure out chipset
type" or whatever... Plus, even IAA 2.3 does'nt install saying the
chipset is not compatible?! Maybe that is the price we have to pay for
having a great mobo with lots of connectors?
Other than that I must say that this is a great mobo and it does its
job just fine!

....
Weird science....
Thanks all for attention and help!
