8Kha+ and USB

Post subject: 8Kha+ and USB

Can anyone tell me whether the 8Kha+ (Version 2.0) motherboard supports
USB 2.0? I have a number of peripherals that use USB (Digital Camera
memory card reader; printers; game controllers; etc) that are presently
connected via USB 1.1. Would a PCI slot based USB 2.0 card work with
this motherboard? And is USB 2.0's speed increase really noticable over
USB 1.1?

BRH, I don't see anywhere in the manual a reference to USB 2.0. Do you have
the board up and running? If so, go to Start - Control Panel - System -
Hardware tab - Device Mgr. The last entry should be Universal Serial Bus
controller.
Expand it and look for any reference to "Enhanced." If you see none, then
USB 2.0
is not supported.

If you go the PCI card route understand it may not support all 2.0 devices.
I found this out the hard way w/ my daughter's iPod. It would not work on
the PCI
USB 2.0 card I bought. It "required" on-board USB 2.0.

Thanks for that informative reply. Device Manager does not report
anything as "Enhanced" under USB, so I guess that I'm out of luck.

One of the reasons that I asked was for use with an iPod, so your
experience has saved me some money.

Wow, how timely. I just had the same question and was planning to go the
external card route. The Syba SD-V2-5U card is only $9 from Newegg. I
don't have an iPod so I think I will give that a try.

Actually -- as it turns out, you shouldn't have any problem. I e-mailed
Epox directly and they replied that the 8Kha+ DOES support USB 2.0 PCI
cards. I purchased such a card and a USB 2.0 hub and all is working
fine now -- even with my iPod.
