Hi,

I have had this 8k7a mobo for awhile, recently when I boot
my system, I see the memory counting on the lcd screen, then
I lose the memory counting bios screen (screen goes black)
I hear one beep, then the bios screen comes back and memory
counts again from start... This can happen 1-3 times, this happen
only during the first start, if I do computer restarts or even computer
shutdown then on, computer boots no problem.

Sometimes as well I hear 2-3 beeps on first start (while screen is
blank), the beeps are separated by 5-6 seconds, then the computer
starts booting into XP.

Does this sound like a power supply problem or a low cmos battery ?
I have to say that these have happened regularly for the past month,
with my system and my ATI card (9500 pro) started deteriorating to
the point, my system would reboot constantly in games (until I found
out that my video card had gone bad physically) and I installed a different
card (nvidia).

I did a memtest86 and my memory (2*256 ddr) are fine.

Just wondering,
Thanks,
Trunk.

Have you tried 'Load Optimum Defaults' in the BIOS? There may be
a value which has become corrupted but which isn't shown on the
BIOS screens.

I tried it, and it seems to be better (thank you!), though it happened
again once last night, but not this morning, the only difference, I turned
on the CPU first, waited 2 seconds then turned on the LCD monitor
(which I doubt is the reason)... I'll try more in the coming days, though
so far it is better than what it was before.

You may also wish to consider 're-flashing' your BIOS, the Epox flash
utility allows you to save your current BIOS, in case you need to redo it.

I'll think about it Smile I used to have long time ago a "beta bios" allowing
for
latest AMD XP CPU's, but then gave up against using it for the time
and went back to the 5/29/02 and I just used an XP 2200 instead of the
2400 or upper that coulda been available, if I had used the beta bios.

Today I had two different odd cases

once I turned on the machine, it detected the cpu and it was sitting in
there
I could not press the del key to go to bios or anything, and it was not
checking the memory (just sitting in that screen), I pressed the reset key
and it detected the cpu and memory started counting and I booted to XP

second time (this afternoon), I turned on the PC, it detected the CPU,
the memory started to count, then when it reached the 512 mb, the screen
went blank, I heard a beep, then it went back to cpu detection, memory
count , showed the temperature, cpu voltage, etc in the bottom of screen
and it went to XP.

Smile

I still have that beta BIOS if you need it. Let me know.
