Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>epox (more info?)

I have an 8RDA3+ board, with an 1800XP, which had neen OC'd using 12.5*166.

I bought a new case, put all of the stuff into it, but found out it had a
faulty power switch. So, everything went back into the old case.

Thats when the problems started. i set it up all again, but when the power
was switched back on, it just switched off after 15 seconds or so. This
kept happening. I put the settings back to the original 1800XP settings, it
lasted a bit longer but it still switched off without warning.

I am using arctic silver ceramique, and know it's not the temperature thats
causing the switch offs. It has done this with a 350W and 380W PSU.

This has only started after changing cases temporarily.

Can anyone help? Thanks

I suggest you check out this forum:

Tones of help to be had there. Seems to me I read of this problem before,
so a search on this site might turn up something. If not, post there . . .
you will get a response.

Suspect a bad component seat, or static damage during handling.

To verify, assemble outside of the case, and start with the mobo not
touching any conductive surface. If the system is stable, all will be well
once a very careful reinstall is accomplished, if it reboots, begin swapping
out components in this order:

RAM, CPU, MOBO, PSU. (have no pci cards installed unless required to access
your boot device; unlikely)<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

My guess, the cpu is overheating due to the HSF not installed properly.
Boot and quickly go to cmos and check the temps in PC health section. You
may see the cpu temp rising rapidly until overheat protection kicks in and
shuts down the PC.

Problem with my 8RDA3+ fan - During bootup (and I can see this in the BIOS, too) I see that my "Power Fan Speed" is only about 1100 RPM and is showing in red. The other fan, the "CPU Fan" is going about 1200 RPM. Recently, my PC started overheating and locking ...

Yet another problem on the 8RDA3+ - This is getting embarassing. I know it doesn't seem like it but I have built every PC since I bought an 8088 machine back in the 80s and I've never had this much trouble. I probably should have just stuck with the 8KHA+. Anyway, I've got no sound..
