I just purchased Delorme GPS SW which fails to display 3-D with an "out of
memory" error. Tech support says that means I need a driver update. Can
anyone explain to me the procedure and location of such a driver? I have
searched ATI site but am confused as to how to do about this learning about
so many available.

Thanks for any help.

Just plug in your O/S and card series. Read the release notes.

http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

If you have problems installing.
ati.com/install

I use Topo 3-D on an AIW9600XT with drivers that are over a year old. If it
does turn out to be a video card driver issue it's probably because the ones
you're using didn't get installed properly. I'd also run DXDIAG from the Run
prompt and make sure DirectX v9.0c doesn't show any errors.

Thanks for the reply. DxDiag shows no problems with v9.0c so I wonder if
the driver is really the problem. I also have a problem with 3-D on another
newer system that crashed T7. This one has a Radeon X859 XT. I am a bit
shy about installing ATI drivers on systems that have never show problems
before. Could there possibly be another solution or should I just go for it?

I've never really had a problem with the display drivers but am not a gamer.
Maybe I wouldn't know. Use the computer almost exclusively for video. Topo
is the only 3-D program I've run on it. If you've got the new version of
Topo drivers could be an issue. It may perform better too.

Uhh.....probably should look at the 9800pro > Cat 7.8 thread.

Thanks again. I am not a gamer either but I have excessively overkilled my
systems with vid cards that I am sure I would never need. I do like Topo so
I guess I will just set a restore point and go for the update from my 6.14
drivers.

Did you get the PN-20 with that Topo SW?

No. I bought Topo a couple of years ago just to see what it was about.
Interesting but not as useful for me as I'd hoped. Now I've seen Flash
Earth. Seems like the PN/Topo would be great for a hiker.

I've been using a Garmin GPSIII for about 14 years. It has even the tiniest
of towns around here but only major highways(no streets, roads). AFAIK one of
their first attempts to go from aviation/marine to auto. Finally bought an
IPAQ with a GPS in it a few months ago. Came with Tom-Tom. It seems OK for
going but doesn't do tracking. Sometimes I meander and like to be able to
see where I've been. Been looking at reviews of Street Atlas 2008. Probably
will get it for the PPC version and to do preplanning on the PC like I'm
used to. Will try to find it on sale before spring.

I use GPS almost totally on road and much of it on a motorcycle. Will still
use the Garmin 90% of the time on the bike. The IPAQ isn't rugged let alone
waterproof. Sad

Sounds interesting. I have had the PN-20 for a few days now and it seems
nice. I have only used SA USA Plus 2007 a few times on a laptop on the
front seat of my car just to try it out and it seemed great. Hard to get
lost and when you get home you can see what new roads you have traveled.
There are a few in my area so that part is handy. I plan to use the PN-20
snowmobiling after we get hit tomorrow with that Nor'easter rolling in over
night. What I like about Delorme is you don't have to spend more on maps.
