965P-DS3 fan control app?

I don't understand your problem; I have a GA-965P-DS3, and fan control
works fine. I did not install ANY software (e.g. I did not install any
of the Gigabyte software or utilities, nor any other (3rd party)
software, but of course I did install the Intel 965 chipset driver and
also the Intel HECI driver, as well as the specific driver for the LAN
chip (I did not install the sound card driver because I have onboard
audio disabled)). Fan speed control works fine. I don't recall what my
BIOS settings are, I think I set it for Intel fan control.

on first boot, which is on the gigabyte CD. The only thing I don't like is
this method takes some memory, but works fine otherwise.

But any of the other methods probably work. The op doesn't say why he feels
the need to control it through windows.

I seem to have a problem with Intel QST. When I set the computer to QST, it
does this weird thing where the PWM is visible through my 120mm Antec
Tricool case fan LEDs (really low frequency, like 8Hz or something) for
about 2 seconds then goes full-speed for 1 second, then slow back down
PWMming for 2 seconds, and repeating. This happens outside of Windows
entirely, during the BIOS menus, etc. This made the hum go up and down and
got annoying fast.

To get around it, I changed the fan mode to disabled to run the fans at
100%. I flipped my Molex around to work my front 12V 80mm's to 5V. This
worked very well, silencing the fans while retaining good airflow, and as
usual the Thermaltake Big Typhoon is inaudible. I wouldn't mind the fans
spinning up and down based on load, but my QST doesn't seem to be
functioning correctly.

Do you know which driver in Device Manager is the one that is activated with
QST so that I can confirm it's both detected and installed?

My CPU fan is the 3-pin Big Typhoon, and I currently don't have my case fans
under software control. Do I need a 4-pin fans to allow software control of
the fans with the 4-pin header? Or can I use 3-pin fans on the 4-pin
headers while using Speedfan's PWM control to control the fans?

OK, I assumed you were using the default intel fan. Check your manual under
the BIOS setup chapter, and the PC health status page there is a note
regarding PWM method.

Are you saying using intel setting in the BIOS affects the speed of your
case fans, or just causes the LEDs to fluctuate?

If you are watching this happen it sounds like you have the PC on your desk
next to you - I put mine under the desk, so I'm surprised when people
complain about fan noise. I have two 120 mm case fans as well as the
standard intel fan.

It's a Zen garden compared to my XP2500+ setup.

Sounds like a lot of work for little result.

Somehow, when Intel designed QST for fan control, I don't think that
they bothered to consider the impact on fans with LED lights.

I don't care about the lights. The fan sound going up and down was
annoying.

Yes. I have tried every permutation of these options on this page and none
have worked other than "disable." Looks like I'm the only one with this
problem. At least I can get it quiet and stable under "disable."

I'm using a Thermaltake Big Typhoon 3-pin fan. None of the options in the
BIOS mentioned in the manual work for me other than "disable." PWM/Voltage
don't make a difference either.

Both. The LEDs and fan speeds correlate in the manner I mentioned before.

I have mine under the desk too, but the noise was very obvious to me. In
the meantime I'm using the 5V trick and switching my Antec Tricool fan to
low. It's good enough but I wouldn't mind some adaptive feedback and
control.

So does anyone use Speedfan to manual control the ranges and operating
speeds of the fans on a DS3?
