Hello

I have the Chaintech 9CJS Motherboard.

I have build a new computer with this MB.
I have the Corsair twin 2X256 PC3200, P4 2,4 FSB800Mhz, ATI 9200 Dual Head
and the Seagate Barracuda ULTRA ATA 120G Disk.

I cant get this system to run stabile at all. First I got some blue screens
under instalating XP prof then I didnt
get the sound to work from any of the connectors and I also had sudden
reebots and other strange things. I called my
suplier who told me to use the thermal paste that was with the card and not
the one with my "Spire" cooler. He told
me this would solve all my problems. My guess was he was talking bullshit
because I never exp. hi temps on the CPU,
but when I reinstalled, everything seemed OK

I managed to instal all the drivers, I even got sound, but after a little
while I experienced sudden reebots and
strange error mesages. Now its completely hopeles. I can just get in throug
"Safemodus".

I cant tell whats wrong but suspect it to be something with chipset drivers
or ATA controller. If I have understand
this right the 9CJS is ICH5R (8280EF) and not the simpler ICH5 (8280EB). If
this is right it seems a little strange
to me tha in the task manager it says Intel(R) 8280EB on all the related
devices like PCI, LPC, and the USB controllers
to name some. The AGP and Memory Controller has the Intel(P) 8287P and only
the RAID controller had the Intel 8280EF mark
on it when I tried that.

The ATA RAID drivers I instal from a diskete during XP instalation. Pressing
F6 in the beginning.

Maby all this is normal and my error is somewere else.

Thanks for you time

I have this MB too,
I run with 2 Kingston PC2700 512MB memory modules which will be upgraded to 4
PC3200 512 MBs by next week.
I had some trouble with an unstable system after I changed mainboard, but after
I formatted the HD and reinstalled Win2k and WinXP, it runs very smooth, though
I had some problems in the very beginning with the SATA drives.
I run two Maxtor 250GBs from a Promise Ultra 133 Controller, and 2 Maxtor 250
GB SATA drives.
I have just a tape and a CD burner on the MBs IDE connectors.
Trying to install from a USB DVD failed during reboot. Also I had a lot of
problems creating partitions and formatting the SATA drives.

Have you installed all the stuff from the CD?
Are you running RAID disks or just the SW?
Have you configured the BIOS in accordance to the disks?

It is probably either your power supply or your memory.
Set "Default Settings" in BIOS.
Try one stick of memory at a time.
Next;
Unplug everything from the power supply except the CPU fan and the HD,
remove all add-in cards except Video and see if it will boot and run
stable.
