My chipset cooler is now starting to whistle and I need to replace it.
It looks really tight, since the chip is between the two pci express
slots. Anyone have any suggestion on a good replacement fan/cooler
that will fit. I did see one by a company called Icechip, looks like
its profile is about the same hight as the oem one. I am sure others
have had to replace the chipset cooler so I am looking for
suggestions/recommendations before I purchase..

Thanks

Thermalright has a chipset cooler that is L shaped off the chip to
dodge PCI/PCI-e cards. Several other mfgs have similar off center
designs.

Many people have had success replacing the stock chipset cooler on the
9NPA series boards with this Zalman heatsink:

I just had this vexing problem, and found a solution that is think, the
best for:

0) Space Requirement
1) Thermal Management
2) Noise reduction (It was the loudest fan in my case!)
3) Ability to allow SLI
4) Price

I installed the Jing-Ting Forcetake JTS-0006 Heatpipe. This new, clever
heatpipe has a very slim, two part base that clamps onto a bent heatpipe
which is angled and has a set of radiator fins with a (blue-led enabled)
40mm fan that runs around 5,000rpm, but only makes 21dba of noise. Now
my cpu fan is the loudest fan in my case, and it runs variable to 2100rpm.

I had a tricky time installing it, but the directions are picture-based
and the English text is simple to understand. It is near silent, the
blue led is ignored in my sealed case, but it does lightly glow my usb
ports in the front of my case, which I actually do like, it's very soft.

It blows the hotter air right into my video card out-board exhaust
system, which is fine, since my case temps are slightly reduced, 2-3c
below the average under heavy loads, idle temps are not changed much, if
any. You can angle the unit on the chip as you see fit, it's
surprisingly flexible in that manner. You will have no trouble fitting
two large video cards with this heatpipe. It just takes nimble fingers
and patience to get it all together, like most any aftermarket thing.

Here's a link or two so you can check it out for yourself, I am just so
thrilled to finally be rid of that annoying little hairdryer noise after
all this time.

(I purchased mine from sidewinder, shameless plug, currently out of
stock, boo!)

I had the same problem with an "EP-9NPA+ Ultra" which was only about
four months old. Although Epox (German support office, contacted by
phone) offered me to send me a new cooler for free, I preferred to
replace it by a quieter one.

Therefore I bought these two parts:

- Revoltec AirGuard 40x40x10mm [1]
- Coolermaster Northbridge Freezer [2]

This fan is much quieter than the original one. Nevertheless, it is
still the noisiest part of my whole computer. Wink

But most probably it would be enough to run it at seven volts
(instead of twelve) because the heat sink is much bigger in
height than the original one. I just haven't got time to try
it, yet.

It was quite tight even at my non-SLI board [3], but it was possible
to replace it by the above mentioned parts.

HTH!

Best regards,
Steffen

Looks like the straight HR-05 version might be better for that
motherboard. Must be doing something right, it's out of stock all
over.

It's marginal for overclocking with a nforce4 sli chip. It also has
a funky mounting hardware arrangement. There's nothing to keep it
from falling apart the way the screw/nut is put together upside
down. Read the reviews at newegg.com. Toss in some locktite or a
lock washer if you're using it.
