I've had my system about 2 years and everything has worked fine until
a couple of months ago. At that time, I added a new DVD burner, BenQ
DW1640. When I tried booting, the computer started to boot as the
power lights on both my DVD drives alternately came on and then it was
if power to the whole system went out for a split second and the
booting process would start over. This happened several times but
after unplugging my system and then plugging it back in and trying
that a couple of times, the system eventually booted fine and the
problem would not repeat itself.
Things had been fine until this past week. The symptoms are appearing
again. It is as if just after the boot process starts that someone is
pressing the reset switch on the case. I am at a loss as to where to
start. This is the first system I've ever encountered anything like
this. I've checked all the connectors and wiring to see if anything is
loose and have not found anything wrong.
At times, it seems like some sort of temperature issue. The system has
been on for awhile when twice this week we had a momentary loss of
power to our home. Both times the system did the same booting problem
and it just continues on over and over until the computer is either
unplugged or power turned off via the power supply switch in the back
of the computer. I left the computer off for 2 hours or so and both
times, the computer booted fine. It may be coincidence though.
I've also wondered if maybe the power supply could be the
culpret....or possibly the ATX power switch on the front of the case.
I'm at a loss. I fought this problem for 2 hours when I got home today
and finally, the darn thing booted up. Figured I'd better ask for some
help while the computer lets me do it!
If someone has experienced this before, I'd apreciate knowing how to
find the cause of this situation. Thanks in advance!.Stan
PS...I have the Asus post utility running but it offers no help as the
power gets interupted just after the bios checks both DVD drives.
