I sent this to Asus Tech Support.
Anyone have a similar experience?
------
I think the BIOS in my A7V880 need a revision.
I just installed it today, and with both the original and the updated
A7V88005.ROM BIOS I get strange voltage readings, and different readings
in the PC Probe than in the BIOS.
First I should explain that the voltage readings on my replaced Biostar
M7VIT Pro indicated that all voltages were very close to perfect, with
the 12v a bit strong. The system is the same as with the Biostar, minus
a tv card.
[I should also explain that I'm using a mobile cpu (35w 2200+) with
default voltage of 1.35v, which is read by desktops as 1.52v. My Biostar
indicated 1.55v vcore. The Asus thinks it's a Sempron 2400+, but
defaults it to 600 mhz at 133 fsb because the startup multiplier is 6x.
I set it in the Asus BIOS to fsb 166, multiplier 10x, for 1666 mhz. (It
did 2.5 hours of prime 95 torture test at 2075 in the Biostar at 1.55v
indicated.) This is one of the cpu's that overclockers are using because
it is unlocked and a great sample of a Barton, able to go fast at low
voltage and very fast at high voltages.]
Here are the readings for both the BIOS and PC Probe, and the
approximate Biostar readings as I remember them.
Rail / BIOS / PC Probe / Biostar (could be reading 2% high, judging by
the vcore)
vcore / 1.484 / 1.584 / 1.55
3.3 / 3.264 / 3.248 / 3.33
5 / 5.055 / 4.919 / 5.0
12 / 11.369 / 11.904 / 12.2 - 12.5
Especially note the vcore and 12v.
I hope a BIOS update will fix this.
