Hi,
I have owned the ABIT AI7 for just over a year and its has performed very
well. However there is one niggle, which is that I have never been able to
get S3 standby-mode to work. What would happen is that when I tried to
bring the PC out of S3 mode it would get to the WinXP load screen, then the
drive would make some thumping type seek noises and then B.S.O.D!
I also have had some strange reboots in windows, which made me think I had a
problem with my overclock, which I spent quite a bit of time looking into
(adjusting voltages etc). . . . anyway Lo and behold one day (about 2 weeks
ago) I tried to boot my PC and found out my HDD had failed (corrupted
sectors).
I sent the faulty HDD off to RMA land and in the mean time I popped in a
spare 80GB Seagate 7200.7 IDE drive. Guess what now S3 standby works great?
Now that I have my new replacement SATA drive back from RMA I am asking
myself these questions. .
1) Was it the fact I had a faulty drive that meant S3 mode didn't work
or
1a) Using S3 mode was the thing that made the drive go goofy (made some
funky-clunky noises trying to resume)
2) If I pop in my new Drive and use S3 mode again will it
2a) Work as expected
2b) Break my new drive?
Basically I'm not sure if there is a *hardware* bug between the AI7-S3 mode
& Hitachi 7K250 SATA drives?
Thanks for reading. . . .

I can tell you that I use S3 standby on a daily basis and I am running a
raid 0 array on the Intel SATA and do not have any issues with coming out of
standby. system will hibernate as well but why hibernate when standby works,
right?
so, in general, there isn't an issue with having a drive or raid array on
SATA, at least as far as the Intel SATA goes, and I also have a single drive
on the SI SATA as well, but no issues with S3 standby mode here.

Hi,
Ok thanks for the reply Tom! I was pretty sure there wasn't a documented
problem with SATA +S3, but I was kinda hoping someone who uses the AI7 (or
another Springdale) *and* a Hitachi 7K250 would confirm that the standby
worked!
I will get the new drive installed ASAP!
