Ive got this old computer with a soyo mainboard, sy -5EH (M or 5, dont
know, whats the difference?). It has been running perfect for 5 years
with an AMD k6-2 300mhz cpu. Now im trying to upgrade this system with
an AMD k6-2 475mhz cpu (AHX 2.4V Core), but I cant get the board to
boot after installing it.
The settings Ive tried so far are:
for 475MHz
JP30 -> 7-8, 9-10 closed, rest open for 2.4V
SW1 -> off on on on off on for mult 5x and cpu bus at 95mhz
JP7 -> 1-2
JP9 -> 2-3
JP10 -> 1-2
for 450MHz
JP30 -> 7-8, 9-10 closed, rest open for 2.4V
SW1 -> on on on off off on for mult 4.5x and cpu bus at 100mhz
JP7 -> 1-2
JP9 -> 2-3
JP10 -> 1-2
None of these settings work. Ive located a jumper on the board, JP4,
but I cant find anything in the manual, addendum or the qs guide about
this jumper. What is it for?
Grateful for any help

Not sure about the settings, although, I have seen several different
versions of the board and one manual does not work with all versions. I
would try to run the 475 with the 300 settings to see if it works. Might try
downloading a different version of the manual also. I'd suspect a voltage
setting problem.
Difference in a 5EH5 and 5EHM is the amount of onboard cash. the 5 has 500k
and the M 1 meg. You can tell which it is by looking at the cache chips - if
both are there, it's an M.

Does the motherboard show a version number?
According to the manual copies I have, version 1.2 of both the 5EHM
and the 5EH5 doesn't support the K6-2 475.
Your settings for CPU voltage and the multiplier should work.
What kind of memory are you using?
JP9 & JP10 determine the SDRAM clock and slower memory
may require setting JP9 to 1-2 and JP10 to 2-3 to slow the clock
down..

If you are running Windows 95 there is a patch from Microsoft that is needed on
AMD K-6 cpu's running over 300 mhtz. Search their KB for the file.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: AMD k6-2 475mhz on sy -5EH |

Ive just tried to boot the system with the settings set for 300mhz,
with different voltage settings, 2.2V-2.5V, still no life. So unless
the manual is completely up the walls, regarding voltage settings, my
cpu is DEAD (RIP).
Thanks for your time.
