Too many double negatives for me. Are you trying to say "yes" here?

In comp.os.linux.misc, someone told me, if I use a router, AOL does
not even need that I'm running Linux. So I thought that implied that
it's possible to connect to AOL without running its client program.

As far as I know, if you want to connect to AOL, you use their gui. It's not a
question of what the AOL host can "see" behind the router, it's just the way
they designed the AOL "experience"...
