Hi all,

Just got an ABIT AS8-v and a Celeron D.

How do I install the processor, all other motherboards I have seen have
sockets for the CPU, this one has pins. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Ian

man I don't want to sound negative, but if you do not know how a cpu goes
into the socket, maybe you should just go buy a nice pre-built box.

What? As Russ says, if you're asking questions like this, are you really
sure you want to be messing around with DIY computers?

The LGA775 form factor is pretty much the same as any other you've used,
just reversed - the pins are on the socket instead of the CPU.

As for how you install it, do you know what RTFM means? Your motherboard's
manual will have a perfectly good set of installation instructions, and, if
you bought a boxed CPU, so will the manual that comes with. I'm sure between
the two of them you'll work it out.

Ok guys wrong cpu (you were right) but actually it does not say anywhere on
the motherboard box what type of processor (other than P4 or Celeron D) was
required, I have changed the processor of a LGA775 P4 and everything is ok.
Maybe just a bit out of touch as I was not aware of pin-less cpus. PC up and
working fine now

Regards

Actually the "Manual" for the Celeron D is 8 pictures showing how the CPU is
installed. The only text is a description of the warranty.

I am embarrassed to say that even following these instruction I managed to
break one of the heatink retaining arms.
They have tried to make it foolproof but even though the heatsink/fan
assembly was on as per the diagrams the heatsink can still get caught on
some part of the shroud/mounting around the CPU. In my case this was not
readily apparent from the top down view I had, so the first arm went over
easy, and as I flipped the second and was thinking "This one seems a bit
tight..." crack!.
There was enough of the arm left to use needle nose pliers on it, so no real
drama, just a lesson I suppose.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
