I want an Athlon 64 CPU but don't know which MB to get. I don't want
to spend a lot of money ( not over $150) for the motherboard. It
would be nice if there is a slot for either a AGP or PCI-E video card.
We won't be doing any Raid so I'd like IDE on the MB.

Other than the above I really don't care.

Also which AMD cpu is the best. Our budget is around $300 to $350.
All I need is CPU, Memory, P.S., & MB. A video card if there isn't
one onboard.

Thanks

There's boards out there with on board video and PCI-E vid slots.
You wouldn't need your old AGP card.

This really isn't any help at all.

Ah, but he was at least trying....the way your sentence is written, it
*can* be interpreted as asking for *a* board that can take *either* an
AGP or PCI video card, like these boards, which have both AGP and PCIx16
slots: some folks like to get a little bit more use out of their AGP
card, but be able to upgrade to a PCIx16 video card later.....

A great place to shop while saving gas is newegg.com....the search
capabilities they provide on their site are the best I have ever seen.

For instance, for motherboards: you can search for socket 939
motherboards that have onboard video, as well as either a PCI or AGP
slot...or neither. Lots of boolean options for narrowing your search.

And, see my next message, the customer reviews, if properly interpreted,
are very helpful. Some you have to take with a grain of salt, like the
reviews where someone complains that their Intel processor didn't fit
into the socket 939 motherboard, but, most are very helpful, as they are
written by enthusiasts.

Check out Asrock motherboards, Asrock is owned by Asus.
The AMD 3500 (Venice core) seems to be a good bang for the buck cpu.

Your right it was a little misleading and he did reply which is better
than most.

Of course I did say I wanted a board by ASUS. One of the problems is
that when I write things I know exactly what I mean but then nobody
else does. I'll try and be clearer next time.

thanks for all your info I found it very helpfull.
