Cheapest BNIB is £108 in the UK, which would translate to about US$200, but
computer bits are cheaper in the US, so I would guess around US$100-120.
Have a look at newegg - everyone keeps recommending that shop in this group. >> Stay informed about: FA: ASUS P5N32-E SLI nForce 680i socket 775 motherboard NIB |

Why do want your account to be disabled? Why have you posted this message

Good luck, but nothing will come of it. I trust that by now you
have received the stock 'we take abuse reports very seriously'
message from Google that actually means 'we are going to do absolutely
nothing'. That's why all posts originating from Google are half
killed automatically in my news reader. If I had my way the entire
Google network would be blacklisted and blocked as a spam site so
they would have a little more motivation to get off their butts
and sort out the problem.
There's a lot of smart people working at Google, it wouldn't be
too difficult for them to create a filter that finds references to
ebay, blogspot, v!@gra etc and discard them before cancelling the
appropiate account.

Remember that receiving an automated reply does not exclude
further action by a human.
If Google were doing absolutely nothing to combat spam, it
seems very unlikely the spam level would be as low as it is
presently.

You're free to block anything you want, though some people
do end up using Google Groups to post legitimate messages.

Yes, but then you also get the wacko privacy advocates up in
arms about scanning and blocking messages. Some people
really do talk about viagra or ebay without trying to spam
or sell. >> Stay informed about: FA: ASUS P5N32-E SLI nForce 680i socket 775 motherboard NIB |

LOL!! Your first time complaining to Google groups I take it?
They send you a form email saying they're not responsible for what their
users post. You can escalate it if you want but you just get different form
emails each time until you reach a dead end.
No real person ever reads your complaint AFAICT.

Ebay has some rules too, concerning USENET postings.

However, strictly speaking, they ARE responsible for what THEIR
users do. The proper solution is to disable such contravening
accounts, possibly after failure to conform. I also believe in
Santa Claus.

Interesting. My news server blocked the original post as spam. So all I
see is the complaints. Including the voice crying in the wilderness with
the forlorn hope that ANYONE would lose an ISP account over posting a
marginally inappropriate message. As if Google were even marginally
interested in abuse complaints.

True, but from memory (I don't have a copy in front of me) their
message makes it appear that they don't actually consider abuse,
hinting instead of other methods without going into any detail.

That's why they are only half-killed. In short, they come up but
are marked automatically as read. Since I usually read my news in
a multi-pass manner, checking the most interesting looking messages
in each group first, anything that doesn't get looked at in the
first pass of a particular session will be discarded unread.

Yes, I was thinking of something more sophisticated than a simple
keyword based filter. They already have spam filters in place to
protect gmail inboxes. I don't know what they key off - it may be
simply a case of so many identical messages tags them all as spam,
or it may be a more sophisticated heuristic or Bayesian filter that
considers each message separately. In the case of the latter it
wouldn't be that much work to use the same technology to check each
_outgoing_ post before distributing it.

The problem is that all the groups this was posted to are alt.*
groups meaning that they have no charter of any authority. The
group where I am reading this is alt.comp.hardware.homebuilt whose
FAQ is basically an informal charter but it does not have formal
charter status. In any case the FAQ is long since out of date and
doesn't reflect the current usage of the group.
Put simply, the way I read ebay's policy is meaningless for alt.*
groups as there is no way any post can be considered clearly
inappropriate.
