In order to "get the right stuff" I need the groups' help. I have a
GIGABYTE MOBO (not pleased with performance) and a DualCore AMD Athlon
II X2 255 CPU. Which of ASUS' MOBOs is their "FLAGSHIP" AM3 Socket
64BIT MOBO? I used to have their A7n8X Deluxe but it finally gave out
recently. It was the best MOBO I ever used!! I could understand BIOS
features more easier.
TIA!!!!

It depends on your graphics requirements. Discrete video card ? or is
onboard allowed. SLI ?
Many asus boards offers unlocking a X2 255 to a quad.

Unlocking is not overclock. Just keep standard voltage and cooling. It
is based on an assumption that AMD produces with few chip designs and
make out of quads X3 and X2, and out of X6 some X4.

So I cannot crown any flagship, but for me m4a89GTD would be adequate.
It requires a power supply with an additional 8-wire-plug.
You get sata6, usb3, ddr3, e-sata, 4 Gb per slot possible.

best regards

John

Thanks John for the input.

I've looked over the ASUS m4a89GTD from newegg and it's just what the
doctor ordered! I have it in my "wish list (need to save up for it)".
I also have Corsair memory in my wish list.
CORSAIR XMS 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000)
Desktop Memory
Model CMX8GX3M2A2000C9

I'm going to order two sets so the mobo will be maxed and with Corsair
I'm guaranteed the best memory performance (I always use Corsair
brand) because Corsair tested kick a** in my Asus P5P800 Intell 775LGA
Socket and also in my ASUS AMD A7N8X Deluxe Socket A (both boards are
dead now but gave me years of best use). both systems was O'clockable.
TIA.

Nice !
I investigated some optional motherboard exchange, because I have a
smal problem with my M4A78-E motherboard and 'supsend to ram', S3,
with windows 7 64. Over time S3 has stopped working. It may generate
memory dump. At first I thought it was a worn-out PSU. Bought a 650
watt Corsair PSU. It did not help. I then thought of exchanging
motherboard to m4a89GTD and buy ddr3 ram. But I tried to boot on a
live-linux-DVD. Then S3 works perfectly. So the problem is my windows
7.
I therefore keep my m4a78-e and 8 Gb ddr2 ram. I probably make another
installation of OS. I don't know how the problem with S3 arised. It
was not the SP1 for windows 7. But probably some of the brandnew
browsers installation: IE9, firefox and chrome.
I use a 60 Gb corsair force SSD for OS to speed up things.

best regards

John
