Post subject: AT7 Everything Slow
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>abit (more info?)

After being in Hospital for a couple of months I came back to a machine that
booted to a blank screen, I got a reply from my last post and changed the
battery on the board and cleared the bios and that solved that problem.

I now find after a couple of reformats and and installing Windows XP that
things have slowed down, an example would be clicking on Internet Explorer
and waiting perhaps 15 secs for it to come up, another example when
connecting, the connect icon takes perhaps one minute to show on the screen,
Word can take upto 30secs to come up. Nothing has changed in the devices I
have installed so where should I look, could it be the Mainboard or the C:
drive or something else. Any help most welcome.

I had a similar problem. My router was stuck sending some continuous info
to the computer. I powered down the router and cable modem, and that fixed
it.

Thanks for that, seems it is the USB Modem, disconnect it and it's fine. How
the hell do I check to see if it's faulty.

Maybe it's not faulty. Could be when you cleared the cmos you now have a
cmos setting incorrect causing USB devices to crawl.

Yes you are right I have reinstalled it on another port and at this time all
seems well. Thanks.

Does it have its own power supply, or does it draw power from the USB-plug?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Draws from the usb, I have reinstalled to a different hub (powered) and all
is fine, What with the mainboard battery going down at the same time I
thought either a drive or mainboard controller. I got away on the cheap this
time. Thanks for your reply.
