Well, after reading a review of the new x1950xtx over at hardocp.com, if you
want the highest gaming performance, that seems to be the new card to get.
Two x1950xtx in crossfire is on par or faster than 2x 7950gtx in SLI (note
that each 7950 card has 2gpus on it) so 2x7950 actually has 4gpus...
As for purchasing a 512 or 2x256meg card: the 2x256 cards only have 256meg
texture memory available in total. To be able to use these cards in sli, the
same textures must be stored by each card. Therefore the benefit comes from
having 2gpus, each rendering part of the screen. Depending on the game,
sometimes sli will be faster and sometimes a single 512meg card will be
faster.
