| If I buy a Microsoft Internet Pro keyboard that is in AZERTY format - can I
simple swap around the letters to make it quety and will DOS and windows
always recognise this keyboard as QWERTY or AZERTY?
I live in the UK and all my windows settings are set to UK in windows 2000
Pro.

WTF??? I have a M$ multi-media pro kaeyboard and it is the same
as every other keyboard I've ever used. This must be a British thing
you are talking about? I don't think you can change the keys on a
keyboard. I've never in my life seen or heard of a keyboard that has
A and Z in place of Q and W.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: AZERTY TO QERTY KEYBOARD CONVERSION |

Depends what you mean by "swap around the letters".
If you physically move the keys, then yeah, as far as I know that should
work, IF your keyboard layouts are set to QWERTY.
The way it all works is that the keyboard produces scancodes, based usually
on the location of the keys. Your operating system then takes the scancodes
and maps those to letters, numbers, and other keypresses, based on the
"keyboard layout".
> I live in the UK and all my windows settings are set to UK in windows

Then I think you'll be fine if you just physically swap the keys. Either
way I think you'll be able to use a combination of keyboard layouts and key
swapping to achieve what appears to be a QWERTY keyboard.
If you have any problems, come back here and ask us - we should be able to
help.

Does that also mean that just because I've never been to France it doesn't
exist?

French, I think.

You thought wrong - they assembled it, it can be disassembled.

What an ignorant comparison, one has nothing to do with the other.

France is not part of the UK which is why I said that.

At least I attempt to think at times. If you pop a K off the keyboard
it doesn't make sense that puting a B in it's place would change what
shows on the screen, but then I've never tried different languages
in Windows. But your amazingly patient and helpful reply is so
appreciated.

You're the ignorant one for not knowing anything about the Azerty keyboard
layout and not even bothering to type it onto google.

You suggested a French layout was "a British thing" because "France is not
part of the UK". That makes no sense.

If the keyboard layout is set to "British" in the OS, then swapping the
Azerty Layout for the Qwerty layout should work. If you have the Azerty
layout on the keyboard, with the Azerty layout in the OS that would work
correctly, right? If you have a Qwerty keyboard layout with the Qwerty
layout set in the OS, that would correctly, right? So where's the issue?
Start thinking, stop trying to make me look stupid because I corrected you.
You're wrong, accept it.

I wasn't. You do perfectly well at looking like a troll all by
yourself though. Your original reply would have contained just as
much information withough being snide.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: AZERTY TO QERTY KEYBOARD CONVERSION |

I've been following this thread and must say that your defense -- for not
being ignorant, as Mr. Pope stated -- is weak. Your first post indicates
quite clearly your lack of knowledge concerning the subject matter, and
yet you had the gall to speak to the OP in a condescending tone, as if
*they* were the ignorant one. Mr. Pope was right on target with his
comments. If you're too lazy to educate yourself on a topic, before
attempting to speak as though you know something about it, you wind up
looking like a dope. When somebody calls you on your foolishness, as Mr.
Pope did, and you come back with attitude, but nothing of substance to
back up your position, you wind up looking even worse. You would do well
to learn from this experience.

I don't expect you to know everything... merely to do some research before
answering a question. Or to not bother replying if you don;t know the
answer. You made a bad start with "WTF???"

And I'm from the UK... We use QWERTY, usually.

This is your first post to this newsgroup, no?
I've made over 30, I believe... most of which are helping people, not
pointing out that I don't have a clue about their question. You decide
whether or not I'm a troll.
Again I ask you not to try to make me look stupid - it's backfiring on you.
