It has "progressed".

You should surface more often. Modern boards have more USB and SATA
connections so you can shelve your old add in pci cards, or use PCI
Express equivalents.

Yes there are, but they're becoming harder to find.

Have you looked at other manufacturer's?

as an example.
I liked Abit boards in the past, my wifes still running an AV8 with an
AMD X2 4200 processor in it. But if they can't/won't supply my needs,
some other manufacturer probably will.
I upgraded to the an ASUS board because ABIT didn't have what I was
looking for. Since I had to buy a new video card anyway, my 6800gt
died, I went to a PCI Express video card < 7900 GT BTW, excellent card
>. If your a gamer you should look into upgrading to a PCI Express
card. AGP is dying, the highest performance video cards are PCI Express
only, and I'd bet money that any mid to high performance video cards
coming out to comply with the new DX10 standard in Windows Vista will
be PCI Explress only too.
