Post subject: Acer vertical lines/shimmer
Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>hardware>video (more info?)

My Acer AL2416W, which I got just five weeks ago, has been getting
vertical lines -- actually alternating light and dark bands about 2 mm
wide on 1920 x 1200. They appear intermittently, but more often when the
screen is predominantly white. There are also patches of white shimmer
which appear and vanish in roughly horizontal streaks. The problem
started about a week ago, but went away for a while after I turned the
brightness down from maximum to 60%. Now it's back.

My video card is an Nvidia Riva TNT2. I'm running Win98 on an HP
Pavilion 8500. I've tried changing refresh rates, but the only choices
available are Adapter Default, Optimal and 60 Hz, none of which get rid
of the lines.

Also tried searching for a new video driver, but the only one I could
find is for Windows XP.

Is this monitor just incompatible with my machine? Is there any point in
sending it back for service? Did I buy a lemon?

Is there a customer support toll free number among the documents?
If so, you should try that first - they may know of a problem, or how
to remove it. Worse case is they should at least exchange it for you.

Samsung 243t LCD Monitor - 2 Vertical Lines - Problem? - Just purchased a 24" Samsung 243T LCD monitor. There are 2 faint vertical lines running up and down right in the middle of the display. Looking for LCD monitor with low vertical range - I'm looking for an LCD monitor that can support a lower vertical frequency and thus display slow frame rates. A "minimum" would be down to at least 23.976 Hz. Even lower would be better. It needs to have both analog and digital (DVI/HDMI) in...

LCD: response time = vertical frequency? - What is the relationship between response time and frequency? I read that 30ms refresh/response time is equivalent to 33.3Hz (vertical frequency) and 15ms => 60Hz. However, I check the specs of Viewsonic LCDs, most of them (regardless of size) have ...

crt w/ fuzzy lines - I have a Proview 19" CRT monitor. This monitor works great for the most part, but at random it gets horizontal fuzzy line (I'm not sure how else to explain it). It doesn't really distort the image or anything. Just these grayish/white fuzzy lines...
