The best place to check the size dimension of the motherboard, is to
download the user manual. The web site cannot be relied on for dimensions,
because they have got it wrong in the past.
Dimensioning is rather flexible now. For the full sized motherboard,
usually you can rely on the 12" dimension to still be 12". But the 9.6"
dimension can be shrunk down to as low as 7.4". So 9.0" is not much
of a change at all.
Where this is an issue, is with respect to mounting holes. Shrinking a
motherboard can reduce the mounting holes from nine to six, and leave
the edge of the board "flapping in the breeze". It looks like installing
DIMMs on the edge of the board, would be pretty dangerous without support.
I believe I've even seen a recent board (not an Asus), where they shrunk
the 12" dimension, but just a tiny bit. Seemed kind of stupid to be fooling
around with that dimension.
If they shrink both dimensions, they might as well be making a microATX board
