Has anyone here had any problems or heard of any problems with the Asus
Commando motherboard and it front USB headers?

My 3 headers seems flaky, cannot recognise on occasion or fades in and out
every few seconds when a thumbdrive or USB hard drive is plugged in. The rear
4 work, but the 3 headers for the 6 extra USB ports are flaky.

Have you tested by using the 2-port adapter that comes in the motherboard box ?
(The theory being, that it might be signal integrity that is the problem.)
Some computer case wiring is bad, and the Asus provided adapter might work
better.

In terms of organization, the Southbridge has two USB2 controllers inside.
One controls 6 of the USB ports. The other controls 4 of the USB ports.
The two controllers may have separate power management. Maybe what
you're seeing, is one of the controllers being disabled to save power.

You can use UVCview, to determine which controller the three pairs
of ports are connected to. That might make it easier to formulate a
theory. This used to be on the Microsoft site, but they decided
to move a few things around, and I don't know where it went. So
the utility can be downloaded from archive.org instead.

Are you using computer-case connections for the 3 front-USB ?

If so, are these connections and their cables USB2.0 compliant ?
Consult the case-vendor's specs. Case-vendors are more than a little
coy when it comes to specifying their USB interconnections. No spec
-assume USB1.x. The devices you name will not be at all happy with a
USB1.x connection.

Thanks so much for the hints. Yes i have tried the header cable that runs to
the rear card slot. It didnt help. That eliminates it being the case wiring on
the Antec 900 case. I also agree with you that it sounds like a weak power
signal or such runnin to the ports. So that it fades in and out sometimes. I
cannot find anywhere in the bios for you to modify anything to do with USBb
volltages, unless it has something to do with the southbridge voltage.

I'll try the utility and get back with you and thanks once again.
Actually , i already know the answer. The 5/6 7/8 9/10 are all on the same
one, with the 1/2 , 3/4 on the rear of the case on the other.
