Presently running a 1GHz T-Bird at a FSB of 133MHz.
The Abit site says that this version will not support an AthlonXP but
that v1.3 will.
Anyone know why? (core voltage,multiplier,etc)
Anyone know if the v1.1 will actually support the AthlonXP? Anyone
done it?
Is there modification that needs to be done or is it hopeless?
If you can't use an XP, what is the fastest cpu for this MB. OC'ing
included.
Thanks

Sorry, just noticed a similar post that was answered by Wes Newell.
If anyone has more advice to add, I would appreciated it.

I have a KT7A-RAID v1.1, and have just successfully replaced a 1.2Ghz
TBird with an XP2400+ (which runs at 2GHz):

1. Updated the BIOS to the latest version (A9), and checked it was
still OK with the TBird.
2. Installed new CPU. Had to clear the CMOS before it would boot, and
it came up at 900MHz, if I recall correctly.
3. Used Soft Menu to set FSB to 133 and multiplier to 9x. (Presumably
this particular CPU is unlocked).
4. Now boots like a charm, reporting "unknown CPU, 2000MHz".
5. CPU Speed test confirms 1999.8 MHz as the CPU clock speed.

Informal measurements (LAME MP3 encoding) suggest the XP2400+ is about
twice the speed of the old TBird.

Thanks for the info.
I am going to advise my friend, who has the same model and version MB
(except it is non-RAID) to upgrade his TBird 1GHz to an XP2400+.
He has been using the A9 BIOS for some time now.
His MS Flight Simulator game is a little jerky now.
He is only using 256MB of PC-133 SDram and a Radeon 7500 vid card and
running Win98SE.
Not sure if just upgrading the cpu will make that much difference or
not.
Perhaps it is the vid card or only 256MB of ram that is making it a
little jerky.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Better first upgrade the memory to 512Mb.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
