Ive currently got a BD7-11 with all IDE channels used.

Im thinking of adding either a SATA controller or a IDE controller in a PCI
slot, and so add extra disks. Whats best with this mobo SATA or IDE? I know
SATA is faster, but I am sure I read somewhere that unless the mobo has the
necessary "gubbins?" to interface to the SATA PCI controller satisfactorily
you wont get the max speed from the SATA controller, plus maybe other probs.
True or false?

The motherboard doesn't know or care either way. If you're buying new disks
at the same time, you may as well go with SATA as it's more future-friendly,
and neater cabling-wise. Other issues may also come into play; for example
some hard disk manufacturers sell their SATA drives with a three year
warranty, while the parallel version of the same drive only comes with one
year of cover.

Not to a significant extent, in the context you're talking about. The
interface itself offers a fraction more theoretical speed, but the
performance actually comes from the disks themselves, not the controller.
It's true though that a SATA card, plus a specimen modern SATA drive will
offer a tiny fraction more performance than an ATA133 card plus the ATA
version of the same drive.

If you're referring to the ability of many recent boards to bypass their PCI
busses to increase disk performance, this is a moot point as far as your
controller choice is concerned, as you can't do these modern tricks with
your BD7-II, no matter what add-in card you choose.

Not sure what you're referring to there, but in general terms there's no
reason to think that either choice will cause "problems".
