I have upgraded my wife's computer with a Biostar M7NCD motherboard w/AMD
2500+ (Barton). Computer is functioning well, but on startup (cold boot or
restart), I get no Bios bootscreen. Screen stays black for a few seconds,
then goes to the WinXP bootscreen.

Any ideas?

Thanx,
Fitz

I just installed the same motherboard and encountered the same issue.
First, you have to get into the BIOS. I was able to do that by hitting the
Delete key as fast as I could as soon as the Hardware Monitor display
appeared. Once I got lucky and got into the BIOS, I found that the defaults
are: HW Monitor [Enabled} and Summary Screen Show [Disabled]. These are
under Advanced BIOS Features. These is also another setting in my BIOS (but,
not shown in the manual) to enable or disable the full screen logo display
on boot. I disabled that as well.
Now, I have a couple of questions for you, or anyone else.
How/where do I control the CPU multiplier? I see the FSB setting, and I read
in the manual that if I set CPU Performance to [Expert] that I will have
full control over performance, but although I can adjust the AGP frequency
in 1 MHz increments, I can't change the multiplier?
I'm running an XP2400+ and would like to run it at 166x13 instead of the
default 133x15.
I'm also having trouble installing the so-called WarpSpeed utility. I've
installed the full driver set that came on the CD, but when I try to install
WarpSpeed, I get a cryptic message box saying "You must install driver
first". What driver, and where do I get it? The Biostar web site has no
drivers available except for the NVidia chipset drivers that came on the CD.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I don't see a setting for the CPU multiplier either. The manual on this
board leaves a lot to be desired. I'm wondering if only the "Pro" version of
the board has the CPU multiplier on it. I haven't tried to install
WarpSpeed....this machine is a basic upgrade for my wife's comp- no OC'ing
required. Might have to take a look at it just for fun.

Here's another problem....if I try to put the comp in sleep mode, it goes
momentarily, then restarts itself. I have put the jumpers for JUSB1-3 in the
2-3 position, but doing so results in no power at all to the USB mouse. The
start with USB device is enabled in the Bios. These are probably two
separate issues. The power management settings in XP are "minimal" and
"standby" when the sleep button is pushed.

Thanx (and good luck),
Fitz

My installation CD has another program on it aside from Warpspeed. It is an
NVidia Overclocking Utility. I would image that would be where you would set
the CPU multiplier from. There is also an Award Bios instruction guide which
is much more detailed than the motherboard hardcopy instructions.

Good Luck,
Fitz

If you get it to work, please let me know how you did it.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

You haven't been able to get the program to install, or get it to work?

I don't think I'm going to be using it. I just upgraded my wife's comp from
a 133 MHz system with a Duron 900 to the Biostar with a Barton 2500+. She's
quite happy with it, and is adamant that I not mess with her "new" computer
(that I just built) by OC'ing it. Total lack of faith (smart girl!).

You're right not to tempt fate there Smile
Married 38 years, I wouldn't even think about it.
I'm using mine as an extra in the office, so I really don't need to be
messing with it, either. It works darn well for $59 as is.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
