Post subject: DO NOT BUY EPOX MOTHERBOARDS PLEASE READ
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>epox (more info?)

Hi

I`ve posted in here a few times about probs with Epox 8RGA+ Corsair memory
and my xp2400+

Even though Epox have admitted the problem to me they will still not advise
Overclockers UK (Where I bought the board) to replace it with another model,
Nor have they offered to replace the memory I bought.
They strung this out between the two of them just to take me beyond the 28
day limit for returns.
They replaced the board saying that it was faulty, It wasn`t and now Epox
have just admitted that the solution they gave me (below) does not work,
and yet Overclockers still will not accept responsiblity and exchange my
board.
The Corsair memory is in fact incompatible with the chipset you can actualy
boot the machine with 3rd party or generic RAM type to bring the memory
timings down, Then it should be fine to replace the corsair memory back in
the board.
The machine now locks up during gameplay.
They then stated that the memory timings should be adjusted from 6,2,2,2.0
down to 7,3,2,2.5, This did not work at all.
Overclockers did not know of this problem and would not contact Epox
themselves to clarify, I had to forward an Email from them to Overclockers
myslelf.
I then changed the graphics card because they said that it was the IGP
chipset on the board causing the problems, I did with a GeForceFX card, It
did not help.
When I replied I got no answer.
A fortnight went by, I then contacted Overclockers about returning the board
because I have had enough, They then told me that the 28 days had expired
and they would not do anything of the sort.
In no part of either Overclockers nor Epox websites does it state that
Corsair memory does not work with these boards, NO WHERE!
When mentioning this to Overclockers they told me that the board accept
DDR400/PC3200 memory and it couldn`t be the memory causing the problem and
yet Epox have openly admitted the problem but have decided to threaten my
ISP account with closure if I email them again.
Epox stink and so do OverclockersUK, They have stolen monies from me under
false pretencies, And false advertising.
Please do not make the same mistake as I did, Avoid Epox boards and
Overclockers at all costs.

Thanks for reading

Hi m8
Sorry to hear about your problems.
I`ve got exactly the same issue with them, They won`t admit responisbility
with mine either and just replaced the board saying it was faulty, It
wasn`t.
Same memory I think as well, Well iy`s Corsair 3200 anyways
They told me that the limit for returns had expired and I`m basically on my
own, Fantastic customer care innit?
I too looked on the Epox website and their isn`t a single mention of any
problems with this memeory type.
What the hell do Epox think we are?Psychic or something.
I`ve gone out and bought myself an A-Bit KD7-RAID all`s well now.
Goto dabs.co.uk and get from their, Ceahp as chips m8 and it works a treat.

Hope all you silly soft sods in hear read this lot and stop wittering on
about how Epox are fantasitc, Nothing but a bunch of theives that`s what
they are, Tossers.

I got a mis-labelled OCZ stick from Overclockers UK and it took nearly 2
months before I got a replacement - which in turn, was a wrong module and
make all together.

The tech. supervisor was the one to handle my case - I do not know for what
reason he got hired, but it is surely not because he knows anything about
customer support.

When starting to Cc the e-mail to the director, things got done a bit
faster.

About EPoX - I've had some communication with them - the reply your e-mails
(ultra) fast - but the answers sometimes reflect this. But since they are
hasty repliers, issues are quickly solved. Got no problem there.

I had the same problem, the people sold me the mainboard made it work
by a bios update. They told me if I put a single memory stik in the
slot in the middle it would work enough to allow the bios update.
IMHO your problem is mainly with Overclockers UK, rather than Epox.

choosing a name like this as many would find it offensive).

In the UK at lease, the 28 days is a convenience for the supplier and
NOT a legal limit.

If either the Board or the memory is unfit for purposes (as presumably
at least one is as they will not work together), it can be returned in
any reasonable time. Indeed, if you purchased it this year (I /think/
post April), new legislation came in to extend your rights in this area.

I would suggest anyone with this problem writes to the supplier stating
that the goods provided are "Unfit for Purpose" and requesting either
replacement parts or money back.

If they do not respond within 7 days, I suggest going to your local
trading standards office. If you subscribe to Which? magazine in the UK,
contact them as well (and tell the supplier you have contacted these
organisations). PCpro magazine can another good source of help as they
will sometimes follow these things up in their "Shark Fishing" section.

By the way, I always confuse "Overclockers UK" with The "Overclocking
Store" (http://www.theoverclockingstore.co.uk/) though I shouldn't. I've
found them to be quite good & are happily based in Sheffield Smile

Cheers for that Julian Smile
Sorry about the ranting but sometimes you just have to lose your temper to
get things sorted.
It has now been sorted, They`ve confirmed that will indeed replace the board
with the 8RDA+ which can use pc3200 memory with no divide overfloat in the
buffer occuring.
I must state though, that they wouldn`t have been so quick if my Fathers
Solicitor hadn`t said what my position was.
He was ready to sue them, My Father paid for the goods on his Barclay card,
They wouldn`t have been to happy about one of their customers being ripped
off either.
In answer to theoverclockingstore, I`ll be buying my gear from them from now
on as well.
I was going to this time, But......................

Cheers

Hey no problem. Glad to hear you're sorted now. I forgot about the
credit card option - doh!

Sadly OCS are rather too handy for me, being a couple of miles down the
road!

By the way, I meant to say that I don't think that it is just EPOX who
suffer from this. I personally think that all of the later generations
of mobo's are operating very close to their limits and so anything with
the kind of stuff on board that the GA+ has is bound to have problems
with some hardware. I'm just glad I went for twinned/matched sticks on
mine & I am extremely happy with the board though I would like to get
digital sound output working - I've nearly built myself the connectors
(that you can't get from EPOX because they are always out of stock!) but
they are a little too large to fit in the slots at present so need some
tweaking.

Digital video output would also have been nice but I figure that by the
time I get an LCD monitor I'll probably want a graphics update anyway.

Good value for money (for me at any rate).
