Can anyone tell me if running PC2100 and a Barton 3000+ will cause any
conflicts or problems? The MB supports both. I just bought the CPU and was
running a 1800+ without any problems. I was hoping not to have to change the
ram for financial reasons. Also because this is a used CPU should I use
Artic Silver 3 or something similar?

If the ram won't overclock to 166MHz, you'll have to run it out of syncat
133MHz, but it's not a huge loss. As for HS compound, I use wheel bearing
grease. it'll work just as good as anything else you buy. It won't dry out
and it won't glue to the cpu. Personally, I think it's better than any of
the so called specialty products for those reasons. And the fact that it
works just as good as any of them and better than most doesn't hurt
either. I just happened to have a 30 year old 1 pound tub of it in a
cracked plastic Valvoline container in the garage that I noticed was still
not dried out after all those years of extreme garage temps here in Texas
and ran a few test trying to get it to burn and run under a torch. When it
didn't burn, didn't run much, and didn't dry out, that was all I needed. I
put it on an A6400 3000+ over a year ago and it's working as good today as
it was then.

Excellent! You'll have no problems. Nforce2 is "infinitely flexible" Smile
My Nforce2 has a "percent" setting, implying there are a number of dividers
available. For example, the 83% allows FSB400 and DDR333 to be used.
There are a whole bunch of different percentages. The only ones to avoid,
are "50%" or "200%", because those choices seem to be able to bust things.

On Auto, the board should do the right thing for you. You can check using
CPUZ (cpuid.com) when you boot into Windows.

I think the board would do the right thing on Auto.

The BIOS *should* select a percentage consistent with your RAM's timing
info as recorded in the SPD chip on the DIMM. (The SPD chip holds the
timing info, and is a serial EEPROM.) You can verify the settings
once you get into Windows, by using CPUZ.

Thanks Paul
I was able to overclock the ram to 166 and it seems to run stable. I haven't
installed the 3000+ yet but do you suggest that when I do I should set the
ram frequency to auto or manually to 166 or does it matter?

I was looking for the spd definition and now that you explained it my search
has ended.
I was experiencing a problem with the Aquarium Screen saver blinking a lot
when the ram setting was set to 166mhz manually, however when I ran CPU-Z I
found that two ram modules were 256mb PC2100 which are 133mhz and one was
512MB PC2700 166mhz.. It seems when running two different modules it clocks
down to the lowest frequency.
