Somewhere I have seen a 12v batt./ pak on a belt. And as I have read so much
about short digital batterylife. Has anyone used this or similar bat Pak and
a Cigarette adapter for the Camera to keep shooting.. and shooting.. and
shooting? Does it work? or do the Cig. lighter adapters only provide
charging? not shooting power? (This may be model dependent) Your comments,
URL for this or similar product?

I am getting close to purchasing my first Dig. Cam. thanks for you input!!

Dan, I've never seen a camera that would run off of 12v dc directly. There
are battery chargers that will run off the cigarette adapter or AC. A
battery pack is relatively simple to put together, just a matter of matching
the voltage. You could slap together 4 D cell batteries in a battery pack
and wire it to you camera with the right cables and get about 5 times the
capacity of AA but D cells aren't cheap. Or you could buy an AC adapter for
the camera and run it off an inverter in your car, you could take more
pictures that you would ever want providing you took them all from your car.
While battery life is important most cameras today get a lot of mileage from
high capacity NiMH batteries. Get a few extra sets and you can take a lot
of pictures.

Sorry Norm,
I must not have been clear... the Car adapter would plug into the 12v batt
pak.
The 12v pak I saw was for a Vid. Cam light.
I need just decide on a dang camera.. and see how the batteries last!
Thanks
Dan R.

I've seen a few battery packs on ebay for about $35.00 or so. They state
they are 3600ma or is that mh, and that they can be recharged up to 1500
times. Im still sitting on the fence with them on whether to buy one or
not, but basically they just hook onto your belt, then plug into the cameras
charge plug. For my camera that would be equivelant to about 3 of the
regular batteries for my camera so about 3x's the shooting time. I believe
but dont hold me to it, that they can be recharged either via household
outlet or car lighter, but check to be sure.

Sorry, only just seen this post.
I've been using the 2CRS maxi power belt pack see
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.2cr5.co.uk/start_shop.html" target="_blank">http://www.2cr5.co.uk/start_shop.html</a> for quite a while.
As an example of the batttery life, I recently went on holiday to Ireland
and took about 100 shots, reviewed them and showed them round in the camera,
before I recharged the pack.

It's a bit clumsey having the pack on your belt, or in my case attached to
the camera strap, but the battery life is worth the bother.

Do have to say, that when I got it I think they were having problems, 'cause
I had to wait 4 weeks for it to arrive and then there were some problems
with the connector.

Cheers

You can now get AA's rated at 2200mAh (MilliAmpereHours) maybe more,
so a 3600 mAh battery wouldn't even be equal to two sets of AAs.
Plus you wouldn't have to wear an extra belt!
