Hi folks,

brand new 8knxp that I started up for the first time. It gave me a
message about not being able to read a boot disk which is fine because
I hadn't loaded an os yet. Powered off and came back the next day.

Not sure what has happened but now each time I boot I don't even get
past the verifying DMI information. It just seems to hang there. I've
tried clearing the CMOS. I've upgraded the BIOS to F6. Each time it
just hangs at the verifying DMI point.

Here is a rundown on the hardware:

Memory: 2x512MB Kingston HyperX PC3200
Graphics: ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
Drives: 2xMaxtor SATA 80GB connected to the SIL3112 connections (as
Raid 0)

If anyone has suggestions, I'm open. I haven't seen anything yet that
tells me what the problem is.

Thanks in advance...

Hi,

I have the same problem. Make a Ctrl-Alt-Del if it happens.

Or better, as I always do it, switch on your case first, and then wait
a few seconds before turning on your system. I don't know what is the
cause. But this solved the boot failure for me.

Try it. (I have GA-8KNXP with F6 BIOS -there was the same failure with
F5-, Antec Sonata 380v and Maxtor SATA 120GB)

First off do the hard drives show up in BIOS?

Well, yes the drives do show up in BIOS but you got me thinking. The
one thing I did do was create a RAID set in the SIL setup utility. I
went in and deleted that RAID set and suddenly I get past the
verifying DMI pool info. I went in and created it again but I can't
seem to recreate the problem I was having before. Weird.

Not I'm going to check this newsgroup to see if there is a prefence to
use the SIL3112 RAID or the ICH5R RAID.

Thanks.

I'm having the same troubles. Did you overcome them and if so, how?

Thanks!

I had something similar to this happen with a 7VAXP, I had the hard
drive set to master with a slave when there was no slave. The bios
still saw the drive but it would cause the system to hang for a very
long time right around where you are describing, so make sure that
your hard disks have the correct jumper settings.
