Post subject: Burned DVD-R disks ok, but unreadable on DVD readers??
Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>hardware>cd-rom, others (more info?)

Hello,

I have a "BTC external USB2.0 DVD +- R/RW writer" and I am using CDBurnerXP
Pro 3 Freeware (very good program!) for for burning data DVDs on "Traxdata
DVD-R (4x speed)" DVD disks.

This works just fine, but there is a problem in reading the DVDs on anything
but DVD-writers (I have tested on two different DVD-RW devices and the disks
are ok there).

The question is why can I not read the disks on standard "DVD-ROM" devices
(I hope this is the correct term), and is there anything I can do to ensure
my DVD-R disks become readable with such DVD-devices ?

Suggestions are most welcome.

Make sure that software is "finalising" the disc when it's finished writing
to it.

Chris.

Thanks. I should have mentioned that I understand that, and I almost always
burn CDs (and now DVDs) using "disc-at-once" or whatever the option to
finalize the disk is called. Still it doesn't seem to help in this case.

Any other suggestions?

Try a different software burning program and see if that changes
anything.

Nothing new but just the same information given age ago.

1. If you think all the files are okay and burn correctly then it's =
possible
the DVD player doesn't like the media.

2. If the DVD Player doesn't have problem with media, and the DVD you =
burn
won't work then it's possible that there is something wrong with the =
burn.

3. What have you burn to DVD? DVD like standard DVD? Mpg? MP3?
Did you burn to correct folder? Did you DVD Author the DVD correctly?

The PC usually can play just about anything (ciz it's designed to do lot
of different thing), when DVD player is designed to play DVD, so it will
require some specific command to work.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Disc-At-Once? do you know for sure if the original DVD work with stand
alone DVD player?

Yes, it's very similar to CD, but DVD (movie) has different requirement.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
