Sounds like the laser or the photosensitive cell is dead. If you have
changed nothing in your operating system, there is no reason it ceases
functioning abruptly because of the firmware. You may upgrade it to be
sure, it should be on the manufacturer's web site
(www.digitalresearch.com?) The usual step is merely to change the
drive, you can have a used one of this speed for almost nothing.
